The tech giant is also expecting to release the Vision Pro to more countries, including France, Australia, Canada, Germany and the UK, starting July 12. 

Apple’s move to release the Vision Pro may be due to its decline in sales in the US and its desire to expand its customer base beyond the US. 

The Vision Pro retails for $3,499 in the United States while in countries like Japan and China, the price for the headset has increased significantly. In Japan, the Vision Pro retails for $3,700 while the headset retails for $4,128 in China, an 18% increase from US prices. 

Apple has further stated that customers can visit the Apple Store online for a personal demo of the Apple Vision Pro. 

Vision Pro Launched: Features of the headset

Apple Vision Pro is a virtual reality headset which allows users to take spatial photos and videos in 3D. Users can also replay them back the footage with immersive spatial audio. Users can also use existing 2D photos and turn them into spatial photos.

Additionally, users can also FaceTime using the headset as well as use SharePlay to interact, watch and listen with other people. 

visionOS powers Apple’s Vision Pro and the updated version, visionOS 2 is expected to come later this year.

It has not even been a month since Apple launched its VR space computing revolutionary headset, the Vision Pro. In the first weeks of the launch itself, the Vision Pro received a well-received response from the audience. Netflix, YouTube & Spotify to also soon make an appearance

Although apps like Netflix and YouTube can be accessed via Safari, YouTube has confirmed that they are working on a Vision OS-based application.

Will Apple Own the VR Market?

This happens to be good news for all users owning a pair of Vision Pro since now they’ll be able to experience a more immersed experience and a very productive one as well. On December 11, Apple made iOS 17.2 public, marking the first rendition of the iOS to feature spatial video recording. This feature is exclusively available on the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro models. Since its first beta version release, it has been revealed that the new ‘spatial video’ captured by the iPhone 15 Pro follows a standard ‘over-under’ 3D video structure. In this style, the video for one eye is placed in the upper half of the frame, while the video for the other eye is situated in the lower half. However, specially designed playback software presents each view to the respective eye, creating a 3D depth effect.

Why Pico Cancel Quest?

Based on insights from individuals familiar with the matter, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is reportedly scrapping the development of Pico’s upcoming VR headset, often dubbed ‘Pico 5’. This Pico cancels Quest decision stems directly from the underwhelming sales performance of Pico 4. However, the standalone headset was introduced in Asia and Europe to rival Meta Quest 2. ByteDance is responding dynamically to market trends and consumer reception in shaping its virtual reality product strategy.

Per the paywalled report reviewed by UploadVR, the company’s shift toward developing a high-end alternative to Apple Vision Pro. However, it’s surpassing its initial aspirations with Pico 5, which is in progress. The project, known by the codename Swan, is expected to incorporate “cutting-edge technologies.” However, the specifics of these technologies and the anticipated release date still need to be clarified. The company is aiming for innovation and advancement in virtual reality.

Pico faced losses in the past

Pico experienced significant layoffs in the preceding month, reportedly impacting hundreds of employees in sales, video, and platform operations. This strategic move of Pico to cancel Quest is perceived as part of a broader initiative to reshape the company’s focus. Moreover, it’s placing a greater emphasis on hardware and core technologies. The restructuring signals Pico’s commitment to refining its business model for sustained growth and innovation.

Given today’s unconfirmed report, Pico might take a page from HTC’s playbook in 2019. Back then, HTC, a mobile phone manufacturer turned VR hardware company, shifted away from the consumer VR market, coinciding with Meta’s (formerly Facebook) release of the first Quest standalone headset.

Challenging Meta is no easy feat, especially in the low-end market where the Quest 2 is priced at $250 and the new Quest 3 at $500. Apple Pro Vision is a new-age technology

According to tech columnist Joana Stern, this headset exceeded her expectations. In a report for The Wall Street Journal, She mentioned that 3-D movies now provide a truly immersive experience with an intuitive interface and natural hand gestures. I felt like a massive dinosaur burst through a wall right before my eyes.

Stern mentioned a few drawbacks, like the weighty headset and causing slight nausea during transitions between virtual and augmented reality modes. Apple added new features in iOS7, and one of them is Check-In. This will automatically notify your family and friends once you reach home. In case of a delay in your journey, it can also alert others once you reach home safely.
