Proton Scribe is a private writing assistant that Proton, a privacy-centered platform, has recently released. The writing assistant will be available on the website and desktop version of Proton Mail.

The writing assistant is designed to help users with composition and improving their drafts while also protecting user data and privacy. Currently, there are more than 50,000 businesses that use Proton for their security features.

Proton Scribe is built into Proton Mail where users can access the feature by clicking the pencil icon. Users can then type in a prompt after which the writing assistant will compose the draft. Options such as Shorten and Proofread improve the users’ drafts to make sure the content is grammatically correct and does not contain any typos. Furthermore, users can use the Formalise option which changes the tone of the content to be more appropriate for formal situations such as a business client email.

Proton Scribe: More on this new service

Scribe does not train on users’ content due to the zero-access encryption from Proton Mail. It is also based on open-source code and models. Additionally, Scribe is equipped with the company’s strong privacy policy which does not allow any new saves after the completion of the draft.

Proton has stated on its official website that Scribe is the ‘first mass-market’ AI tool that makes sure data does not leave users’ devices. This is because the service is based locally on users’ devices. Additionally, users can also revise and review the content before the email is sent.

To gain access to the writing assistant, users will have to pay an additional $2.99 a month. However, users subscribed to Proton’s other plans or legacies can access Scribe with no additional costs.

AT&T the US-based telecommunications company announced on Saturday that personal data of 73 million current and former accounts was leaked onto the dark web due to a cyberattack. The telecom company is currently investigating the cyber attack, which occurred about two weeks ago.

Everything you need to know

On Saturday, AT&T was hit by a cyber attack, resulting in 73 million accounts being leaked onto the dark web. The company confirmed the data to be from 2019 & earlier. So far no evidence has been found as to what led to the cyber attack.

Although the company has reassured its account holders calling the situation unaffected. “As of today, this incident has not had a material impact on AT&T’s operations,” the company wrote in a press release on Saturday.

The leaked information included data such as names, home addresses, phone numbers, date of birth, and Social Security Numbers. The company has advised users to set up fraud alerts and check their accounts and credit reports via email.

All the passcodes of the 7.6 million account holders have been reset. The event has caused a sudden panic in casual lives and reminded the importance of cybersecurity.

How Can We Prevent A Cyber Attack from Taking Place

In today’s world, cybersecurity is more important than ever. With ever-growing threats to businesses, having a strong security solution is essential. A simple hack into the system can lead to legal problems. There are far too many threats out there to ignore the risks.

Here are some ways to prevent cyber attacks :

Keep your software and systems fully up-to-date

Ensure Endpoint Protection

Install a Firewall

Backup your data

Wifi Security

Passwords

Conclusion

With the recent event of cyber attack taking place at AT&T, digital users and companies have become cautious. As for AT&T, further investigation is still in progress. The company has managed to take care of the situation professionally and keep up with its reputation.

In 2019, when IBM unveiled the first quantum computer for research and business at the CES (Consumer Electronic Show), it sparked significant progress in the scientific community. For secure data transmission, scientists have long relied on classic encryption techniques such as Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA), shared with the world in 1977.

Yet, the rise of quantum computers challenges traditional encryption methods due to their superior computational capabilities. To counter this threat, scientists turn to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) as a shield. It ensures that sensitive data remains secure and resistant to possible decryption by quantum devices.

Looking ahead, government private firms and agencies must sift through extensive lines of code, identifying outdated RSA and other protocols. Their goal is to replace these vulnerable methods with Post-Quantum Cryptography, effectively countering the looming threats from quantum advancements.

Post-Quantum Cryptography Secure Data

According to Newhouse, data vulnerability is a reality, and the shift to Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) is poised to be the most critical transition. The introduction of RSA and additional public key encryption forms multiple decades ago.

Newhouse emphasized waiting until the new Algos are finalized before implementation. He pointed out that, currently, using them would breach rules requiring a Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) validated product, which is still in the works.

Highlighting the collaborative nature of the process, Newhouse mentioned that three drafts are undergoing review, and external input is crucial. Despite initially planning to present four unique algorithms, NIST altered its course after discovering crucial defects in one through independent testing last year.

As reported by Breaking Defense, the transition from RSA to Post-Quantum Cryptography is a response to the looming threat of quantum computers skilled in breaking available encryption techniques. This transition holds widespread implications, affecting private companies, government agencies, and any entity depending on encryption for safe communication globally. The primary goal is to shield sensitive data from potential decryption by quantum machines.

Quantum similar to Schrödinger’s Cat

We all know quantum computers operate using qubits, tapping into the intrinsic anticipation of subatomic particles. Qubits can be in several states simultaneously, embodying a spectrum of values from zero to one. The origin of this concept can be traced back to Schrödinger’s Cat. It’s a famous thought experiment depicting a cat simultaneously dead and alive until observed. It’s a quirky trait of quantum machines. Exploiting this outstanding property, quantum computers can tackle computations of heightened complexity far beyond the reach of traditional computers.
