A new Google Maps updates has just been announced with features powered by Google’s own Gemini models. This AI-powered update aims to help people get answers to complex queries about the world.

Users will now be able to transform Maps to receive ideas on where to go next with the help of Gemini. They can also find out why people like going to a specific place with review summaries by Google’s AI. Google has stated that these features have been made possible with Gemini’s reasoning, summarisation, and creation abilities, which pull data from 250 million places globally. The AI also utilises insights from the Maps community. This new feature will be available for US users starting this week on both Android and iOS devices.

Google is also introducing another update to make driving less stressful. It will now be much easier to explore through routes before starting the journey. Users can receive directions and check out the top attractions, landmarks, dining options and more. Google Maps’ enhanced navigation will also show reports on weather disruptions that might affect their route.

Google Maps Updates: Immersive View Update by Google

Another upgrade from the new Google Maps Updates comes from Immersive View. Google has stated that Immersive View will now be expanded to 150 cities all over the world. These places include Kyoto, Brussels, and Frankfurt.

Immersive View is an excellent tool to experience what certain routes, stadiums, and parks would look like. This AI-powered feature also shows users the traffic and weather conditions on the day the users are travelling. With the new update, Google will also let users know where they can park and the AI will also inform users of any complex turns along the user’s route.

Google has begun rolling out a feature which came as a result of SpotHero integration with Google Maps and Search. With this feature, users will be able to find and book their parking sports right from the platform itself.

SpotHero is a startup designed to let drivers save closeby parking spots. Users will now be able to find parking spaces at their destination as well as reserve it. The user will first have to enable the ‘Book Online’ options on the two apps. Once this has been enabled, the users will then be directed to SpotHero’s website to confirm their booking. This can be done without leaving Google Maps or Search.

This integration has been under testing since April. So after a month-long wait of testing, Google has finally begun rolling out its feature for all users in Canada and the US. As of now, SpotHero covers over 8,000 spots across more than 300 cities in the two countries. Some of the more popular locations where users can use this feature for parking are SAP Centre and Madison Square Garden.

Image Credit: Screenshot Taken from SpotHero

SpotHero Integration With Google Maps: More on this new feature

The SpotHero integration also provides options to find better locations that provide places with valet services, wheelchair accessibility, and EV charging. With no parking reservation feature of its own, Google’s collaboration with SpotHero comes at the right time. It has been noticed that Google has been adding more and more functionality features to ensure that people continue using Google Maps.

SpotHero is used worldwide by people and this integration will expand its customer base. The company has even claimed that more than 10 million drivers in the US, The startup has claimed to have gained around $1.5 billion from the total amount. This parking feature has already been introduced in Apple Maps back in 2023.

Google Maps update has introduced the Speedometer and Speed Limits on iOS and CaPlay. The new features were released in India a week before the global release.

The Speedometer shows the speed at which a person is driving. Google notes that the speedometer available on Google Maps is simply informational and could contain inaccuracies. So people must check in with their car’s speedometer to verify the vehicle’s speed.

Furthermore, the Speed Limits is a feature alerting drivers if they are driving too fast. If the driver drives beyond the speed limit then the speed indicator changes colours.

Google Maps Update and how to access the features

These speed features can be accessed by going to the Settings option on Google Maps and then selecting Navigation and finally Driving options. Users can then enable the speedometer and speed limit feature by turning it on.

Google released Speedometer and Speed Limits way back in 2019 on Android. So the speedometer and speed limit feature was released on iOS and Carplay came 5 years after the Android release. However, there has been no reason for the huge delay in its release on CarPlay and iOS.

Now, get the Bird’s Eye View on Google Maps with the all-new feature “immersive view on routes.” The feature was launched at Google I/O 2023, along with other AI features like Bard. It will initially implement in 15 cities, including London.

The “Immersive View on Routes” will provide the viewers with a 3D view and details on weather, traffic, street names, etc. It will help the users get a detailed view of their journey so they can pre-plan accordingly. It is right to consider it as Apple’s Flyover View’s advanced version. The users can now visualize all the landmarks, buildings, etc. while navigating their routes.

Bird’s eye view on Google Maps will also simulate traffic so that you can figure out what roads you are riding on and what alternative ways are available if a road is busy. Moreover, while driving, you can see your vehicle moving, which vehicles are blocking you, and if there is any way to go ahead with those vehicles to save time.

Bird’s Eye View on Google Maps for 15 Cities

Google’s new feature will fully launch in a few upcoming months. But, it will be initially visible for only 15 cities. These cities are Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, New York City, Paris, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Tokyo, and Venice.

Miriam Daniel, GM and VP of Google Maps clarified in his recent interview that this feature would launch in a few cities during the upcoming summer, and others will start using it in or after December. Bird’s eye view on G will launch first on Android and iOS. There is no clear statement about its launch for Desktop.

Will this help users to get the next level of experience while navigating their routes? Are you excited to experience this all-new feature of Google Maps? Please share your thoughts with us.
