Google has just recently changed up some of its spam policy documentation by putting in new details that have to do with the reputation and abuse of the site. This new update is targeted towards providing proper guidelines filled with set details to prevent misuse as well as user experience.

The new documentation provides more details and information about site reputation abuse. This new version explains what ‘first-party oversight’ means. This term refers to when the first-party hosting site directly produces one-of-a-kind content. They also do not employ any third-party sites focused on content redistribution with the goal of search ranking manipulation.

Google has also added a new detail that explains the consequences when Google’s spam guidelines have been violated. Google states that it would remove sections of a site from search results so users may have to be wary. Additionally, Google has also modified the ‘Thin affiliate pages’ into ‘Thin affiliation’ with an updated definition.

Spam Policy Documentation: More changes from this update

The updated spam policy documentation has been upgraded and brought in a more suitable introductory sentence. The upgraded introduction now begins with the spam definitions and continues from the definition. A new change regarding the word consolidation is also available.

The new update also expanded how the word ‘abuse’ is being used. In terms of SEO, abuse is used to refer to activities deceiving users as well as search engines. The updated version now utilises the given word around seventeen times. This update also provides suggestions on how to update a user’s content with the addition of more details and clarifying information that already exists.

The tech giant has also upgraded topic communication and conciseness. Phrases have become more concise to properly get the main point of the message across.

The Trending Now section has gotten an updated design on Google Trends. This new design makes it easier for users to navigate through the Trending Now section.

The updated Trending Now section can now position more trending searches in a proper listing. With the new look, users can now view details such as Search Volume and Trend Breakdown. Users can also see when the search queries started to trend and a chart has even been provided showing the levels of its popularity.

There is also a filtering option available at the top of the section which allows users to filter by relevance, trends, time interval and country. Additionally, users are given an export option which lets them download CSV. Under the Export tab, users can also copy to the clipboard and view the RSS feed.

Trending Now and Google Trends

Google Trends is a tool provided by Google which helps users find out what searches are popular or trending. It gives users insights into the popularity of search queries in certain places, times, languages, and other metrics. However, Google Trends does not analyse the search queries made by a few people. This tool is beneficial for SEO purposes and market research. This Google feature can provide users with Keywords and inspiration for content.

Trending Now is a section under this feature that is seen next to the Explore and Home sections. This section shows the most searched queries and topics happening in real-time.

Google Notes on Search, an experiment by Google Search Labs finally closing by the end of July. The announcement for the closing down was made back in April 2024.

Google has announced through an official document that the deadline for the Notes’ termination is the end of July. Furthermore, the company reminded users to download their Notes content and failure to do so before the deadline would mean the data would be lost. There are no ways to retrieve the data once it has been lost.

Google has announced that users can download the content of their notes through the Google Accounts feature called Google Takeout. Users can transfer and download data from various Google services such as Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Photos.

When the feature first launched, Notes did not generate much positive attention. It seemed as though this experiment by Google was meant to stay a timed experiment.

Google Notes: More on This Google Feature

This feature which was only available for Apple and Android devices was meant to be a feedback service. It enabled users to annotate and add comments or tips for search results. This feedback was used to improve and build on the search results.

Users who signed up for the feature were able to see Notes and Add Note buttons virtually everywhere on their browsers. It created a type of forum where users could provide their insights and comments on how to improve the search results.
