Apple will be holding the It’s Glowtime event at 10 AM at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park in Cupertino, California. Apple’s annual developer event, the WWDC24 revealed that the new iPhone 16 will come integrated with Apple Intelligence, a personal AI system.

It’s Glowtime: What to expect from the event

The main star of the event will undoubtedly be the iPhone 16 lineup. The most anticipated iPhone 16 has been said to be powered by the A17 Bionic chipset. The iPhone 16 and the Plus variants are expected to be around 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches respectively. The iPhone 16 Pro models have been reported to be larger than the iPhone 15 Pro model. The entire iPhone 16 lineup will feature the Action button, which was exclusive only to the iPhone 15 Pro models.

During the It’s Glowtime event, Apple will most likely release the latest iOS 18, macOS, Sequoia, iPadOS 18 and watchOS 11 update. The software update for Apple’s various products is speculated to go live after the event.

Besides the new iPhone lineup, the Apple Watch Series 10 has also been speculated to be unveiled during the It’s Glowtime event. Furthermore, it has been reported that the event may also showcase two models of the upcoming AirPod lineup.

It has been reported that this new feature will see its release in the new iOS 18, macOS Sequoia and iPadOS 18 developer updates.

To access the Distraction Control feature, users can go to the Page Menu available in the Smart Search. The desired items can be selected for removal from the website. Safari currently does not sync this feature throughout its various devices. Therefore, users may have to manually select the items for removal in each device. However, Safari does remember to remove the items for any future visits to the websites.

Distraction Control: More on this feature

This new feature allows users to hide annoying and distracting elements from a website. It should be noted that Distraction Control does not remove ads altogether so users may not be allowed to remove all the ads they come across permanently.

This update follows in the footsteps of Arc as this browser also introduced a tool similar to Distraction Control. This tool called ‘Boosts’ allows users to personalise websites and remove any unwanted sections from the websites.

Such features make the browsing experience less of a hassle for users. It limits the amount of ‘distractions’ that websites badger users with, making the users’ browsing experience smoother and more enjoyable.

How to Install iOS 18 Public Beta?

People with compatible devices can download the public beta of iOS 18 by going to Settings options > General section> Software Update > Beta Updates, selecting the iOS 18 Public Beta option, and tapping Download and Install. Users can also download betas of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia (12) watchOS 11 and tvOS 18 at the Apple Beta Software Program website using their Apple ID. You can also give feedback directly to Apple using the Feedback Assistant app.

What’s New in iOS 18?

In the iOS 18 public beta, RCS messaging is provided in a Messages app and it supports home screen customization by allowing users to move icons and widgets around. The Photos app features a new layout. Third-party controls can be integrated with the Control Center; app icons have dark mode variants. It also has similar improvements and a new native Calculator app on the iPads.

The iOS 18 public beta for example does not include Apple’s AI-based Intelligence features, which are still “coming later this fall” according to the company. These simple features will remain exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro. iPhone 15 Pro Max and a slew of new Macs (and iPads).

Before this new update, the iPhone flashlight had basic and limited features. It had the normal flashlight and the usual on-and-off switch on the Lock Screen. Users could also choose the level of brightness through the Control Centre. 

However, with this new flashlight update, comes an overall upgrade in the flashlight’s UI and functionality. 

iPhone Flashlight New features

Once users have turned on the flashlight, the newly added UI will come into view in the Dynamic Island. To adjust the beam width, users can simply swipe right or left. Adjusting the flashlight’s beam allows users to adapt to various lighting environments. Users can also adjust the brightness through the same method of swiping right or left. 

Another update in the flashlight can be seen in its UI. There is a slight tweak in the design as users will notice the curved line represents the brightness and the beam width. In addition, the UI even displays a curved line with dots to signify the maximum level of intensity. 

Other new updates in iOS 18 beta 3 include the change in shade of third-party icons which was only available for Apple’s apps.

iPhone Mirroring will allow Mac users to mirror their iPhone’s display to their Mac. Other functions in the new feature allow users to interact with their iPhones and receive iPhone notifications on their Macs. Users can also drag and drop between their Mac and iPhone devices seamlessly. 

The other iOS 18 feature is the SharePlay screen sharing which will offer enhanced screen sharing capabilities. Apple also states,” You can draw on someone’s screen so they can see what they can do on theirs, or control their screen and take actions yourself.”

iOS 18 beta will also fix bugs and make a few tweaks to the other new features. Some of the new Siri capabilities will also be released later this year. 

iOS 18 beta 2 will be released for developers alongside the second betas for iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, tvOS 18, visionOS 2, and watchOS 11. Meanwhile, a public beta will be available later in July.

iOS 18 Beta 2 and the reason for its unavailability in the EU 

Apple has previously announced that three major features for iOS 18 will not be available in the European Union. Bloomberg reports that features such as iPhone Mirroring to macOS Sequoia, SharePlay Sharing and Apple Intelligence will not be available will not be available in the European Union.

Apple is facing problems over violations against the Digital Markets Act, which has consequently affected the release of some of the new iOS 18 features in the EU. 

Apple has stated, “We are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security.”

It has even been speculated that Apple and Meta could soon face charges over DMA violations.
