Microsoft has been speculated to rebrand Copilot for more business-related purposes. The Microsoft Colpilot rebrand will see a name change to Microsft 365 Copilot. This rebrand will bring attention to the other paid tools available in Microsoft 365.

There are no details out on when the official rebrand will take place but it is safe to assume the name change will probably take place this year itself.

The Copilot rebrand will also specify the AI assistant’s various integrations. For instance, ‘Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word’ is expected to replace ‘Copliot in Word’. Furthermore, Copilot’s integration into the finance, sales and service operations will be formally named ‘Microsoft 365 Copilot for Sales’. Within the Microsoft 365 suite, ‘Business Chat’ will encompass the graph and web chat experience.

The rebrand shows Microsoft’s intent to fully embrace the Copilot branding. It should be noted that the rebrand will most likely affect the business aspects of Microsoft AI. However, there are no plans in motion to change the mobile apps integrated with Copilot.

Microsoft is following in Google’s footsteps with the AI assistant rebrand. Google had famously changed its AI assistant from Bard to Gemini earlier this year in February.

Microsoft and OpenAI are now official competitors as Microsft openly lists OpenAI as competitors in its yearly report. OpenAI now joins Microsoft’s lists of competitors including Google, Amazon, Meta and Apple.

This move by Microsoft has blindsided many as the relationship between the two leading tech companies was generally positive and mutually beneficial. However, this move by Microsoft may or may not complicate their partnership.

Microsoft and OpenAI- Current State of their Partnership

As per reports, Microsft has invested over $13 billion in OpenAI to become its only cloud service provider. Furthermore, Microsoft has even integrated OpenAI’s AI technology into its products. However, Microsoft has been pushing itself into the AI market with its products. The tech company has several AI services such as its AI chatbot Copilot and Microsoft Azure AI.

Despite the open listing, OpenAI has assured that Microsft will remain a partner. A spokesperson from OpenAI has further stated that competition between the two companies has always been recognised but their partnership has not been affected.

2024 has not been the best year for Microsoft and OpenAI’s relationship as Microsoft withdrew a board seat at OpenAI, following the reinstatement of Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO. There are also rumours circulating about internal competition between the two companies, such as Microsoft’s CEO hiring a member from DeepMind’s AI team. This member was none other than Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Deepmind.

Restyle Image is a feature that lets users upload an image and choose a style with additional details to get a new image. Furthermore, Frame Image is another feature available in Microsoft Designer. This feature follows the same procedure as Restyle Image where users upload a photo, choose the style, and add any additional details to get a personalised frame. 

The company also plans on rolling out the Replace Background feature soon. This feature will seamlessly replace the backgrounds of users’ photos through AI. 

Users are allowed 15 free daily boots which can be used for creating and editing AI images and designs. Upgrading to a Copilot Pro Subscription will grant users an increased 100 boosts a day.
