Users can create and design their playlist’s cover art with unique and creative pictures, text effects, graphics, colours and more. This creative control adds a new level of customisation and personalisation for all Spotify users to enjoy. Spotify says that users’ playlists will now ‘look as good as they sound’ with the new customisation features. 

The music streaming app has teamed up with different music artists and visual creatives behind some of the most popular album cover art. Each one of these creatives has tested this feature to come up with interesting and creative cover art for their Spotify playlists. Some of the music artists include Arlo Parks, Jamie xx, and Clairo. Visual creatives such as Elliot Ulm, Pablo Rochat, Vita Kari, and Jesse Nyberg have been listed as partners by Spotify. Furthermore, Spotify has also partnered up with other creatives such as Imogene Strauss, Cey Admas, and Adrian Hernandez. 

Custom Cover Art For Spotify Playlists: How to use this new feature

To start using Custom Cover Art, users will have to click on the three-dot menu available on the playlist page and then click on ‘Create Cover Art’. Users will then be able to upload their original photos and add different visual elements such as text styles, effects and colours. 

Users should note that they can only save one custom cover art for each playlist at one time. If users want to make more covers for the playlist, they will have to create a copy of the playlist.

Wynk Music is a music streaming service launched in 2014. The music streaming service is owned and operated by Airtel. It had a long ten-year run before Airtel decided to end the service. Wynk is a free music streaming service so it would be no surprise if the service was not profitable enough for Airtel. With Airtel’s intention to offer customers better streaming service offers, Wynk’s demise was imminent.

This shutdown comes after Airtel partnered with Apple to bring Apple Music and Apple TV+ services to the table. With this partnership, Airtel will be offering its Airtell Xstream users access to Apple Music and Apple TV+. This exciting deal on Apple services will probably be open to its users later in the year. Current users of Airtel’s music streaming app will also be compensated in the form of Apple Music offers. 

This collaboration between the two companies is expected to benefit them both as Airtel will be offering exclusive Apple Music plans at a heavy discount as compared to the rates that Apple offers. Airtel will be the only telecommunication company offering such Apple service deals. It has also been reported that Airtel and Apple are collaborating to create a carrier bill. This will thus assist in Apple’s monetization of OTT and streaming services.

This collaboration between Apple and Google makes the process of switching between its streaming platforms smoother and hassle-free. This feature is only available for those with an Apple Music, iTunes or YouTube Music subscription. It should be noted that this feature is only possible for Apple and YouTube music streaming platforms so Spotify users are left out of the fun.

However, there are certain limitations with these features as users can only transfer playlists that they have created. This means that playlists curated by other users cannot be moved. Moreover, music files that have been uploaded are also excluded from this feature capability. Audiobooks and podcasts cannot be moved between Apple and YouTube music streaming services as well.

Apple Music and YouTube Music Cross-Transfer: How to get started

To move their playlists, users will first have to go to the Apple Data and Privacy page and sign with their Apple ID. Users will then have to click on ‘Transfer a Copy of Your Data’ after which, users sign into their accounts on YouTube Music to finish the transfer process. When the transfer is undergoing, Apple will send an email notifying the users with the emails linked with their Apple ID. After the transfer of playlists has been completed, Apple will send a confirmation email to the users.

This is not Apple and Google’s first-ever collaboration as both companies have also worked together before. The two tech giants collaborated previously to transfer photos between Google Photos and iCloud Photos. This transfer was done through DTI (Data Transfer Initiative).

With the introduction of the new songwriter features, songwriters can track and manage royalties from songs they have written. These new features can be accessed through the TIDAL Artist Home where artists can sort out their PRO (Performing Rights Organisation), IPI (Unique songwriter ID number), and Publisher Info.

New Songwriter Features on TIDAL

Artists will have to sign up to the specified rights organisations to obtain royalties from their songs. Therefore, TIDAL has teamed up with AllTrack to make the royalty and registration process for the artist performing rights easy and uncomplicated for the artists.

Furthermore, artists will also be able to properly categorise their music into three different types namely. The three categories are called Unmatched Recordings, Completed Works, and Works Without Recordings. Artists can also use verified split sheets to allocate the song credits of various contributors.

The songwriters can also decide who else has access to manage their catalogues. Permission can be given to the artist’s managers or publishers and later removed if the artist sees fit.

TIDAL has also allowed its artists to view their music metadata to check whether or not the royalties are properly split.

Spotify’s new Basic plan excludes audiobooks but allows listeners to access only music and podcasts. Listeners can now return to the $10.99 pricing, which the previous Spotify standard plan used to cost. 

This new plan could be a good option for users who do not use the monthly 15 hours of audiobook listening with the premium plan. 

This move could indicate Spotify’s intention to develop a “Supermium” plan that could include high-fidelity audio. Bloomberg reports that the new plan will presumably cost at least $5 more monthly.

Earlier this month Spotify raised the prices of all its subscription plans. The music listening app increased the Primim Individual plans to $11.99 per month, the duo plan was raised by $2 per month to $16.99, and the family plan increased by $3 per month totalling $19.99. However, the student plan, offered at a discounted price to students, remains unchanged at $5.99. 

Earlier in April, Spotify saw a 20% increase in revenue, a 14% increase in premium subscribers and a record quarterly profit. Spotify is expected to release its Q2 2024 earnings later on July 24.

The desktop app of YouTube Music will now have the ability to download music and playlists for offline listening and enable the users to enjoy their favourite tracks even when they don’t have the internet.

YouTube Music recently released a new feature through which users could listen to music offline. The feature was earlier only available on mobile phones. YouTube Music desktop app has introduced the same feature. Users now will be able to download their favourite music and playlists and can play them without any internet connection. Users can even download and save an entire playlist for an internet-free listening experience.

YouTube initially tested the feature on a small group of users. Due to a positive response and high demand, it is expected that the feature will be available to all users shortly. Users in the testing phase receive a message near their Library tab saying, “New! Download music to listen offline.” 

It’s important to know that any offline downloads on the desktop web app will count towards the 10-device download limit of YouTube Music. Additionally, if desktop users don’t connect their devices to the internet at least once every 30 days, their offline downloads will expire, similar to the mobile app.

How to download songs in the YouTube Music Desktop app?

Here are the steps to follow to download songs on YouTube Music’s app:

• Open the YouTube Music App on your desktop.
• Go to the album’s or single’s page.
• Look for the download button which is located between the “save to library” and “three-dot dropdown menu options.
• Click on the download option to save the album or single to your desktop.

All the songs downloaded on the web will appear on the ‘Downloads’ tab in the user’s library, similar to the mobile app.
