Google has just recently changed up some of its spam policy documentation by putting in new details that have to do with the reputation and abuse of the site. This new update is targeted towards providing proper guidelines filled with set details to prevent misuse as well as user experience.

The new documentation provides more details and information about site reputation abuse. This new version explains what ‘first-party oversight’ means. This term refers to when the first-party hosting site directly produces one-of-a-kind content. They also do not employ any third-party sites focused on content redistribution with the goal of search ranking manipulation.

Google has also added a new detail that explains the consequences when Google’s spam guidelines have been violated. Google states that it would remove sections of a site from search results so users may have to be wary. Additionally, Google has also modified the ‘Thin affiliate pages’ into ‘Thin affiliation’ with an updated definition.

Spam Policy Documentation: More changes from this update

The updated spam policy documentation has been upgraded and brought in a more suitable introductory sentence. The upgraded introduction now begins with the spam definitions and continues from the definition. A new change regarding the word consolidation is also available.

The new update also expanded how the word ‘abuse’ is being used. In terms of SEO, abuse is used to refer to activities deceiving users as well as search engines. The updated version now utilises the given word around seventeen times. This update also provides suggestions on how to update a user’s content with the addition of more details and clarifying information that already exists.

The tech giant has also upgraded topic communication and conciseness. Phrases have become more concise to properly get the main point of the message across.

CodeLLM merges Brave’s search capabilities with large language models (LLMs) to deliver pertinent code snippets, comprehensive explanations, and citations in response to programmers’ search queries.

All about CodeLLM

CodeLLM is designed to help programmers by offering AI-generated code snippets based on search results, step-by-step explanations, and source citations for reference and validation.

Utilizing Mistral, an advanced language model capable of generating code from text prompts. Brave automatically integrates CodeLLM into programming queries, generating a widget above regular web search results.

This widget prompts CodeLLM to provide an AI-generated response summarizing crucial information and offering sample code aligned with the search results.

Brave emphasizes CodeLLM’s ability to harness the real-time contextual power of a specialized search engine. This distinguishes it from generalized language models. The company highlights the value of contextual information provided as these models become more accessible and affordable.

When will CodeLLM be available?

CodeLLM is now accessible to all Brave Search users on desktop and mobile, requiring no setting adjustments or additional downloads.

Brave aims to enhance CodeLLM’s capabilities further and intends to make its results available through the Brave Search API for integration into third-party applications shortly.

Things to know about Brave Search

CodeLLM was introduced two years after launching Brave Search as an independent alternative to significant search engines like Google.

Brave asserts that its search engine doesn’t track users or gather personal data.

Brave Search relies on the Web Discovery Project (WDP) for its index, encompassing over 20 billion high-quality pages and indexes 700 million pages daily.

According to the company’s data, Brave Search handles over 25 million daily queries.

Google is shaking up its ad rules, putting the brakes on personalized ads for consumer finance. Now, there are more restrictions in the mix. No more targeting users based on sensitive stuff like race or religion, Google’s playing it cool.

They’ve been fine-tuning these rules for a while, and this time, it’s all about reining in those consumer finance ads. Google says, “Let’s keep things sharp and on-point with our ad game.”

What will change for your Finance Ads?

In February 2024, Google will give its personalized ads policy a makeover. No more targeting credit and banking ads based on personal stuff like gender, age, or ZIP code. It’s a revamp.

They’re flipping the script on their policy name from “Credit in personalized ads” to the snazzier “Consumer finance in personalized ads.” In the U.S. and Canada, it’s a no-go to target specific interest categories based on personal deets like gender, age, and where you live.

What’s on the blacklist? Anything related to credit, credit cards, loans (yes, even home and car loans), and those short-term loans. Plus, banking and checking accounts are in the mix, along with debt management products. Google’s making the rules crystal clear.

When Will the New Finance Ad Policy Kick In?

Mark your calendars! The revamped rules for personalized ads kick in on February 28, 2024. Brace yourself because full-on enforcement is rolling out within six weeks.

Google’s got a fair play policy if advertisers are bending the rules, they’ll get a heads-up at least seven days before the account takes a timeout.

Why the change? Google is on a mission to up the privacy game and put the brakes on any discrimination in financial ads. Don’t worry, though you can still run ads for credit and banking, keep it chill, and skip the sensitive personal details for targeting. Google’s keeping it fair and square.

What will change for Advertisers?

Get ready for the rulebook rollout! Google’s playing enforcer come late February 2024, but here’s the scoop: advertisers, it’s time to do a pre-check on your campaigns for any compliance hiccups.

Take a magnifying glass to your ad targeting settings, kick out any sketchy personalization based on touchy categories, and stick to the new policy vibes.

Google’s giving a heads-up, but if you play fast and loose with the rules, expect a yellow card account suspension. Don’t sweat it too much, though; Google’s got your back. They’ll tag along and help you navigate the changes during the chill six-month transition. Easy does it!

Google has declared the commencement of the November 2023 reviews update today. This update signifies a shift in how Google approaches review-oriented content in the future.

Per Google’s statement, the reviews ranking system will now appraise articles, blog entries, and other analytical content. It will not scrutinize user-generated evaluations on product or service web pages.

How will it impact your website?

For websites predominantly featuring reviews, the evaluation will encompass all such content. Assessments will be done per page rather than site-wide. It will be done mainly for sites with other focuses than reviews.

The reviews update, launching today, aligns with Google’s latest core search algorithm update, which is also in progress. Due to the combined impact, this could lead to fluctuations in search traffic and rankings on many websites in the coming weeks.

Furthermore, Google has mentioned that these review system changes will happen continuously. This means Google won’t send notifications about review system updates while they are ongoing.

What you should know about the November 2023 Reviews Update?

For websites dedicated to reviews, this adjustment may offer some advantages.

Historically, when Google’s review system had adverse effects on websites, they had to wait months until the next update for potential improvements, even if they promptly addressed the issues.

Recoveries can be expedited in light of this transition towards regular and incremental modifications. Nevertheless, the ongoing scrutiny and assessment of review-centric content pose novel challenges for publishers. Google advises that websites featuring reviews meticulously conform to their exacting quality standards and accord prominence to their guidance.

Key Information at a Glance

Timing: The November 2023 Google Reviews update begins on November 8.

Scope: It will impact reviews-based content in English, potentially expanding to other languages.

Google’s advice: Google suggests that high-quality reviews should be original, transparent, current, and informative. It will cover the pros and cons.

Impact: Websites relying on reviews for traffic might experience fluctuations in rankings. It depends on how well their content aligns with Google’s evolving reviews system.

Response: Follow Google’s quality rater guidelines to audit your review content. Focus on enhancing thin or low-value reviews.

Pivot: If your site is losing ground, consider using Google Ads to recover lost traffic while working on improving your review content.

Google has announced that the spam update in October 2023 will be completely rolled out on October 20. The company announced the spam update on October 4.

Google announced the spam update is initiated based on the feedback of users. Multiple users reported more spam results while searching in their local area.

Moreover, Google is hoping to increase its capability to detect spam and provide users with a better experience.

How will Google tackle spam?

Google has set up an automated and manual reviewing system to identify spam pages. The same system will work to demote those pages or sites. One of the systems is SpamBrain, which uses AI and ML to keep spam strategy on the spot. Google also will release periodic updates to keep spam trends away from its system.

What type of websites or pages are Spammy, as per Google?

Google policy documentation clearly states the outlines of prohibited practices. Those practices include:

Google Sites

With a signed-in Google account, you can create websites using Google Sites at sites.google.com/new.

Although one can choose to use a real domain name. The website is hosted by a free website builder and published under the sites.google.com domain.

Not Indexing Pages on Google Sites

Because their Google Sites webpages were not being indexed by Google, the person asking the query was concerned. The question was read out by John Mueller and is as follows:

“There was a question submitted in French, basically asking why my Google Sites website’s pages aren’t being properly indexed.”

Google may index pages from Google Sites

John Mueller from Google was the first to confirm that URLs on Google Sites can be indexed.

Mueller’s reply was:

“Getting questions in various languages is fantastic. Backing up, Google Sites-built websites can and do become indexed in Google Search.

However, because the URL you see when logged in and the public version can be altered. Google Sites’ URLs can be a little tricky to track.

Spammers Like to Use Google Sites

Link spammers who use the “Google Stacking” strategy to build links on Google subdomains are well-known for using the Google Sites service.

A Google Site is used by spammers to construct a page of links on Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc., and then interlink them all. The erroneous notion that Google subdomains have “authority” and “trust”. That is transmitted to spammer sites via links is the foundation of Google Stacking.

That’s wishful thinking, of course. There isn’t anything Google refers to as “trust” or “authority” that is passed from one website to another through links.
