A new app on the block called Screenable helps parents prepare their children to use technology by turning Apple devices kid-ready.

There are several modes that parents can choose from when setting up Screenable on their child’s device. For instance, when parents choose the Dumb Phone mode, the child’s device instantly turns into a ‘classic flip phone’. Features are limited in this app with only FaceTime, location sharing, Phone and some select apps. The company has stated that its mode is an excellent alternative to the Apple Watch. With Screen Trainer, the child’s self-control is contained. Features such as Overtime let children stay within their daily time limits. Parents will still be notified about their child’s activities.

Parents can also remove certain apps such as the App Store, camera, internet and more. This removes any distractions available on the child’s phone until the child is ready. Furthermore, the parents can also receive guidance and parental advice every step of the way. All of the advice provided is backed up with research and is up-to-date with current parenting styles and challenges.

Image Credits: Screenshot Taken From Screenable App

Screenable: How to use this new app

To start using Screenable, the parent app must first be installed and the family profile must be set up. After which, parents can then install the kid version of the app on their child’s iPhone or iPad. Users can then choose a mode which instantly turns the child’s device into a media player, dumb phone and so on. Parents can also get notified and reports. They can also update the app settings remotely.

The startup was founded by Stevie Clifton and Tom Chilfton along with their wives, Hannah Kwon and Sarlet Chilfton. Certain modes on the app such as Dumb Phone are available for free, while other modes can be accessed for 7$ per month.

Manifest is an AI startup app founded by Amy Wu, aimed at easing the loneliness epidemic. While the app does not intend to replace mental health facilities and services, it wants its users to feel less alone.

When users open this wellness app, they can tap on the orb in the middle of the screen. Tapping or holding on to the orB allows them to talk to the AI. The app then mimics the user’s speech patterns and provides affirmations to whatever the user typed out. The users can then use these affirmations as audio for meditation purposes.

Image Credits: Screenshot From Manifest App

Wu says that Manifest works as a wellness app because it makes wellness easy and convenient. Using technology when someone is not in the best place might not be the best place to start but it is a reality that most people go through. People scroll through their phones just to escape so why not use a wellness app while on the phone?

Manifest: More features of this app

This startup launched earlier this year and it has since generated over 18 million manifestations on the platform. Since it’s a fairly new startup, the company has not raised around $3.4 million through a seed stage.

Wu has stated that the app has a few safeguards to help prevent something dangerous from happening. For instance, the app’s AI directs users to a suicide hotline if the user mentions or talks about self-harm. However, the app has certain topics that it refuses to talk about with the users.

The app goes through the usual challenges that come with being a mental health app since it has no actual medical backing behind the app. Furthermore, Wu says that she does not think people should be going to Manifest in the case of dire medical attention. However, due to the inaccessibility of medical care, young people often turn to these apps.

Opera is rolling out a new Tab Commands feature that lets users manage their tabs by simply talking with Opera’s browser AI, Aria. This AI-powered feature enables users to pin, group, close, and bookmark tabs.

The users can enable Aria by pressing the Ctrl+/ or Cmd+/ and then write in their requests for Aria to act on. For instance, if a user wants Aria to close their YouTube tabs, then the users can type “Close YouTube tabs”, which Aria effectively closes their tabs. Aria can also help users organize their tabs as well. Opera’s AI can pin, close, and group tabs. This AI can even make bookmarks for the users. This makes organizing tabs less of a hassle and more convenient for the users.

Tab Commands are available for use in the Developer version of the Opera Browser. The AI behind this feature uses only the prompts provided and no other data is processed. This ensures both the security and the privacy of the users. The browser AI does not receive any information about the tabs except for the action they are meant to perform.

Tab Commands: How to use this feature

Opera states that there are two methods of accessing the Tabs Commands feature. Users can access this feature by enabling the Command Line which lets the users type in their Prompts. The users will simply have to let Aria know what it has to do and Aria follows through. When a user right-clicks a tab and then chooses the AI Tab Management option, they are presented with three choices such as “Close old tabs”, “Gourp my tabs”, and “Save my session”.

Image Credits: Screenshot Taken From Opera Browser

Aria also gives the users a recap of the action that was performed. It also gives users the choice of whether or not to undo the action or keep them. This is particularly useful when a user accidentally prompts Aria to close a tab that was not supposed to be closed.

swsh, a social media app launched in 2023, has undergone a whole new revamp. When the app debuted last year, it was originally designed as a fun app where people can play pool games with each other. However, the app has recently decided to change its whole premise while maintaining the Gen Z essence.

The app first started as an ‘icebreaker’ game app that friends can play to connect, whether in person or virtually. Users could answer up to five questions about and along with their friends. Points and Superlatives are collected based on the amount of votes they earn. The co-founder and CEO of swsh, Alexandra Debow stated that the app’s polling system was powered by ChatGPT. Weilyn Chong is the other co-founder and she is also the COO, while Nathan Ahn serves as the company’s CTO.

Now fast forward to the current year, the company has diverted the app into a shared photo album app. Although there are plenty of apps that fit this description, the company’s Gen Z features could make it stand out from the crowd. For Instance, users will be able to filter and replace Solo cups and other alcoholic drinks. This is a useful tool, particularly for young people who want to keep that side of them hidden. Additionally, users can also hide specific pictures. For instance, users can send in requests to other people if the user appears to be in an intoxicated state or they’re somewhere they’re not supposed to be.

Image Credits: Screenshot Taken From swsh

swsh: More features of this app

Users can also find pictures of themselves from a collection of pictures with the help of the in-built AI facial recognition. Furthermore, the users can also choose if they want other people to view their images.

With the relaunch of swsh in February, the app also brought in a new tagging system that enabled users to allocate names to different faces which makes it easier to search. So when users don’t recall the name of a person from their college, they can just go through their saved tagged names.

X is unbanned in Brazil after the platform paid over 28 million reais and a newly appointed local representative. The site is now operational in Brazil once again.

Brazil being one of X’s largest markets in the world, it is no wonder that X did not want to let go of the country indefinitely. There is an estimate of around 22 million X users in Brazil alone. The loss of Brazillian users on X also meant more traffic for other sites like Bluesky and Tumblr. Bluesky had logged in a record-high number of new accounts ever since X was banned in Brazil.

This ban came as a result of a legal battle between Moraes and X. Moraes had claimed that X was enabling disinformation to take place by disagreeing to ban certain profiles that were spreading false information about Brazil’s Presidential election in 2022. Musk did not see kindly to this and he fired back and called out Moraes for abusing his power and violating free speech.

Moraes had demanded that the platform should appoint a legal representative in Brazil and suspend the accounts of those spreading disinformation. However, X did not comply. But strangely enough, X later went back on this and revealed the identities of the guilty accounts.

Later on, Brazil demanded a fee of 28 million reais if the platform wanted to reinstate itself into the country. And by the looks of it, the fine has been paid. A legal representative in Brazil was also named as per the requirements made by the country. Anatel is responsible for ensuring that X returns to Brazil and its 20 million followers in 24 hours.

Co-founded by Sasikanth Miriyampalli and Eduardo Pratti, Pinnit is an app that organises a user’s hectic notifications so they don’t miss out on any important ones.

Pinnit is currently available only for Android. This app was first launched back in 2020 and it served a different purpose during its initial release. However, the app has evolved and added a few more features later. Sometimes, the notifications a user gets can be daunting and a nuisance to sort through. This app allows users to sort notifications and pin tasks for better management.

The creators of this app envisioned this app to serve as a solution for people missing out on important tasks and notifications. According to a study, a person gets an average of about 146 daily notifications. Among those notifications, the person has probably missed out on a few crucial ones., perhaps a dinner reservation with the in-laws or a text from grandma.

Pinnit: More features of this startup app

The app first started by letting users pin tasks on their notification bar to serve as a reminder. The app has since then gone through a revamp with new features and a whole new UI. Users can now be able to look through their notification history to check for any important notifications they missed out on. The users can even look through notifications that were dismissed. This startup app enables users to sort their notifications through the latest to oldest system. In addition, users can also filter notifications from select apps.

This app also offers its users with customization features. Users will be able to customise the description and title of the notification. It acts like a reminder of sorts.

Miriyampalli has stated that Pinnit will be receiving new features later as the months progress. This app gives a 14-day trial for new users and after the trial expires, the users may have to purchase the app itself. The app comes at a one-time purchase price of $1.99.

Wordy is a newly launched app which makes learning English fun and enjoyable. This iOS app is the brainchild of Sándor Bogyó, who wanted to create an app to learn English while watching films and TV series.

There are two subscription plans for users to choose from such as the monthly $2.99 and yearly $29.99 plan. Users can transform their screen time into study time. After a user chooses which episode or movie they want to watch from the app’s library, Wordy’s AI studies the subtitles. After analysing the subtitles, the AI then takes out and each word goes through the process of lemmatization.

The app also utilises the user’s mic. The AI analyses the spoken words from the TV’s audio. This lets the language-learning app figure out which part of the episode they are in and transcribes and highlights words that could be troublesome for users to know. So a user can look at their phone for a translation of an unfamiliar word that pops up.

Wordy: More features of this app

This app also has a summary page for every page which lets the users read each word. These words are also categorised by difficulty. Users can also save certain words to their library for later practice. They can make use of Wordy’s flashcards to make the learning process easier.

Bogyó states that the app is built with a blend of third-party AI models and propriety AI models. It makes use of TMDB for TV series and films and OpenSubtitles.com for subtitles.

Although the app is only available in English as of now, Bogyó has stated that he plans on expanding language support. Spanish will soon be integrated into Wordy around November. Additionally, German and French will also be following after Spanish integration.

Shelf is a social network app that connects users based on their media interests. The app describes itself as a visual summary of a user’s current interests.

This social network app was launched this year and Koodos, the company behind the app has raised over $7 million from various investors. Some of these investors include First Round Capital, Evan Sharp, Blockchain Capital, and Suchit Dash among others. Koodos Labs is based in New York and they worked on many products but none of them seemed to land, except Shelf.

Firstly, this app works by linking platforms such as Netflix, Apple Music or YouTube. Any media-based platform can be linked with the app. After the users have linked their accounts, Shelf then builds a personalised storefront which gets automatically updated depending on the user’s rate of consumption. The app also has plans to extend support to Steam so users can add the games they are playing.

Shelf: In-App Features of This New and Unique App

Available on both Android and iOS, this free-to-use app tracks both the user’s and their friends’ interests. Both parties can get updates on each other’s interests and media recommendations. The users have full reign to customise what will appear on the app. They can also invite their friends over to the app to share the fun. Users can add links to their page as well.

The app also has fun features like a time capsule which shows the growth of the users’ interest over a certain period. Users can also view a weekly recap of their interests as well as their friends.

Addressing data privacy concerns, Koodos has assured us that the app does not use users’ data to train AI. The company is also testing out a new feature that allows users to have a private Shelf experience. Users will soon be able to track their media interests and habits without sharing them with anyone. Their storefront will not be visible to anyone else except them.

Mira, a startup launched by Sylvia Kang was started to help women understand more about their hormones and fertility. This innovative startup acts as a hormone monitor utilising quantitative technology.

The company has launched a series of testing devices to check hormone levels for women. The device analyses the users’ urine to decipher the results. Mira then provides insightful inputs, helping women with timelines on the best time to get pregnant. It also lets the users know when and why they should enquire with a doctor.

A hormone tracker for women has changed the game in the healthcare industry as the field does not have much knowledge or resources to tackle the issue of female hormones. With more than 100,000 customers, the company has helped women construct fertility plans. It educates and informs women about their hormones.

Mira: More on this innovative startup

The full Mira experience requires users to purchase At-Home Hormone Lab. The users will also have to download the official app which acts as a fertility and hormone tracker. Users will also receive personal recommendations from the app concerning how many “wands” they should use for each circle.

Customers who purchase the “At-Home Hormone Lab” from the company are given a tester and an app. There are three different types of kits at various price points. The cheapest one the Basic Kit costs $229 and it tracks the users’ LH and E3G hormones. It also predicts when ovulation is about to begin. The Max Kit contains both features from the Baisc Kit but this Kit confirms the period of ovulation accurately. The Max kit is priced at $264. Lastly, the Clarity Kit priced at $298 has all of the features from the other two tiers. In this kit, users can find out how soon or how far along they are from menopause. They can also evaluate the health of their fertility.

The company also has At-Home kits for men. With the Yo Male Fertility Sperm Test X 2, men will be able to test their sperm count and other parameters helpful when trying to get their partners pregnant.

Kinsome is a startup aimed at strengthening the relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren by taking out the factors that make such intergenerational relationships hard in the first place.

This startup was started by Eben Pingree, Mike Gerbush, Brianne Baker and Ashelt Hocking in 2023. The Boston-based company has recently secured $1.2 million through a pre-seed funding round with investors such as Ivan Yuen. Other angel investors from Doordash, GitHub, CashApp, and more are involved in this funding round. Kinsome is a free-to-use app but the company plans to roll out a $4.99 monthly subscription plan.

The main goal of this platform is to strengthen the bond between intergenerational familial relationships, particularly that of grandparents and grandchildren. It fosters strong connections between the two parties which is quite helpful when they live far away from each other. Kinsome also takes a load off parents by enabling the relationship between the grandparents and kids to take place without much difficulty.

Kinsome: Kinzey, the AI set to build connections

Kinzey is the company’s own AI companion aimed at fostering relationships between grandparents with their grandchildren. This AI companion engages the child in fun and interesting conversations. It helps both generations to express themselves without being held back by a generation gap.

Kinzey suggests its users with conversation starters and questions to ask each other. Moreover, Kinzey also provides explanations of terms that grandparents may not be up to date about. Fun activities such as icebreakers and interactive games are also offered.

This innovative startup does not require grandparents to download the app. Instead, grandparents can participate through links provided by Kinsome. There is also no need for passwords as they have essentially been replaced by links that can lead to a full experience on the web. Thus, users don’t even have to download an app to participate.
