This new feature is available in the WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.24.13.17 update.

According to WABetaInfo, users do not need to add contacts in their address book to make calls from the app. Additionally, by entering a phone number, users can quickly save it as a new or existing contact in the address book. A messaging shortcut will appear on the dialer screen, enabling users to send messages to a phone number they had first intended to dial but chose to message instead.

This new feature makes it faster and easier for users to connect with people quickly without saving their numbers.

Before this update, users would have to manually save another person’s contact information in their address book so they could contact them on WhatsApp. However, with this new feature, users will now have a faster way to navigate the app.

A status preview has also been added as a new feature. Users can now preview status updates without clicking on them. This update will be available gradually to all users soon.

Users can block or report the sender/contact by just a long press on their screens. This update aims to improve user control and security while emphasizing the ongoing issue of spam messages on the platform.

Spam messages have been a trouble to the users for a long time. From the time since when users were somewhat friendly with the interface of WhatsApp there was a rise in the spam messages found in by the users. This update is a good control over it and will be appreciated by the users. In the last update, WhatsApp Launched a New Feature, “Silence Unknown Callers,” for iOS and Android. Making things more secure and easy with both Upgrades.

How to Block Your Spam Texts?

Users can either tap-hold on the notification and choose from the options. For eg, if a user receives a spam text, He/She can tap on the notification which will prompt a bunch of options out of which users can pick to choose the block option in case they wish to do so. Users will also find an option to report spam texts.

An alternative method to block, report, or add your spam contact is by going to the contact’s profile and finding the options to block or report.

Cross Platform Messaging

WhatsApp is also working on inviting possibilities where users could receive chats from other platforms keeping in mind the end-to-end encryption messages. WhatsApp if not good has been commended for their security and privacy. Recently WhatsApp employee shared the company’s plans to look for alternatives for registering to WhatsApp than phone numbers.

Conclusion

WhatsApp has worked on one of the most important features of a multi-billion user company, i.e. security. The block and report feature from the notification in the WhatsApp update is gonna help users keep track of their safety as social media consumers and be safe users of digital communication.

The WhatsApp Channels feature has soared past 500 million active monthly users, boasting various famous figures like Diljit Dosanjh, Katrina Kaif, and Allu Arjun among its most sought-after channels.

This function permits users to acquire updates from organizations, teams, and individuals they follow. Notably, these channels differ from normal private chats, maintaining privacy by keeping the following channels invisible to others. Recently, Meta, the owner of WhatsApp, introduced Stickers to augment the channel experience.

Exploring the Phenomenon of WhatsApp Channels

Mark Zuckerberg took to his WhatsApp Channel to announce the milestone, celebrating 500 million users active monthly within seven weeks of the feature’s launch. The feature was initially introduced to Indian WhatsApp users in September and has garnered significant traction.

Zuckerberg was enthusiastic, stating, “The WhatsApp Channels have reached 500 million monthly activities in just the first 7 weeks. It’s fantastic to witness such high engagement from the WA community!”

Eminent channels include those belonging to the International Cricket Council, Indian Cricket Team, Mumbai Indians, and high-profile personalities such as Katrina Kaif, Diljit Dosanjh, Allu Arjun, Chef Ranveer Brar and Vijay Deverakonda.

If you still need clarification about what WhatsApp channels are, let’s discuss.

These channels offer users a means to get updates from specific entities, distinct from regular chats. Moreover, the checklist of the following channels remains concealed from others.

The recent introduction of Stickers, especially on WhatsApp channels, has garnered attention. Admins of the channels have found this feature a compelling way to engage with their followers uniquely.

Celebrity Insights and Diverse Content – Inside the 500 Million Monthly Users

Renowned figures like celebrity chef Ranveer Brar and singer Diljit Dosanjh have endorsed the effectiveness of these Channels. Diljit Dosanjh shared, “My WhatsApp Channel is like a genuine, personal space where I connect with my fans. It’s akin to sharing significant moments of my life, much like chatting with friends and family. Whether unveiling a new song, an exciting collaboration or just sending a simple good morning message, WhatsApp Channels lets me express myself and stay closely connected to my community of fans.”

The International Cricket Council updates the live Cricket World Cup, while the MLB World Series offers a behind-the-scenes peek. Similarly, artists like Maluma and Sebastian Yatra engage with followers via location-based interactions and exclusive announcements.

WhatsApp is committed to expanding and refining Channels as per users’ feedback. Additionally, they’ve launched an official WhatsApp Channel to keep users up-to-date on product updates and future features.

In a significant update slated for December 2023, Google and WhatsApp jointly announced alterations in the way Android users store their WhatsApp chat backups. Commencing from this period, these backups will contribute to the storage allocation within Google Accounts, encompassing the complimentary 15GB storage provided to every user.

This impending change contrasts starkly with the situation in 2018 when WhatsApp backups were excluded from affecting Google Drive storage. The deployment will commence in the upcoming month for WhatsApp Beta users, gradually encompassing all Android users within the initial half of 2024.

To ensure users get information, a notification banner within WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Chat backup will trigger 30 days before this transition. Individuals hitting their storage cap will be prompted to free up space, removing redundant items to facilitate uninterrupted backups.

WhatsApp Chat Backups Impact Google Drive

For managing storage efficiently, Google has incorporated tools to expedite bulk deletion of images and other sizable files. Moreover, trimming items within WhatsApp can curtail storage usage in subsequent backups.

The alternative path is purchasing additional storage via Google One, starting from Rs 130 per month for 100GB, Rs 210 for 200GB, and Rs 650 for a 2TB plan. Eligible users will soon receive limited, one-time Google One offers while also being able to opt for annual plans. When the standard 15GB storage fills up, users will need to procure extra space on Google Drive to continue WhatsApp data backups.

These alterations exclusively impact personal Google Accounts. Google Workspace subscriptions tied to work or educational institutions remain unaffected in their storage quotas.

Strategies for Seamless WhatsApp Backups in Google Drive

This transformation aligns the Android experience of WhatsApp Chat Backups with other platforms. This previously privileged Android user with five years of exclusion from Google Drive storage limits an advantage not extended to iOS users.

An alternative solution exists for users averse to utilizing their Google account for Chat Backups. The WhatsApp Chat Transfer option facilitates wireless data transfer when transitioning to a new Android device, requiring Wi-Fi activation on both phones.

Assurances from Google suggest that the essence of WhatsApp backups remains unaltered, except for potential storage limitations affecting cloud data saving. Deleting WhatsApp data will similarly purge corresponding content from cloud backups, aiding in Drive space conservation.

Silence Unknown Callers feature enables users to easily activate a setting that will silence calls originating from spam or bothersome callers. Such calls commonly originate from numbers not listed in a user’s contacts. This feature aims to prevent disturbances caused by calls from unknown numbers. Users who opt not to enable this setting will hear their phone ring when they receive calls from any WhatsApp user, even if the caller is not in their contact list.

How to set up Silence Unknown Caller Feature?

Users can turn this option on by going to the Settings menu, clicking Privacy, and then to the Calls menu. After turning on the Silence Unknown Callers option, they will not get calls from unknown callers. Moreover, WhatsApp says these calls will automatically mute but still show over the notification bar or section. This helps users to check if that call is important or not.
