X has announced the arrival of Radar, formally known as Insights. This new tool will help users with spotting trends right before they hit the mainstream, keeping people up to date with everything happening on X.

X’s new tool is currently only available for Premium+ subscribers of the platform. It was a tool that was designed with Verified Organizations in mind as it helped those working in marketing to track different trends on topics on X. The users were able to type in certain keywords to check the analytics, trend activities and so on. With this new tool, users could also track the volume of conversation happening over time. It helps the marketers understand X’s trends as they are happening. Marketers can take these insights and find out when it is the best time for posting to reach target audiences.

The social media giant has stated that this new tool will be out as an early version. Users can expect updates to come along the way. However, X has also stated that only select Premium+ subscribers will receive access to this tool. So it seems like those who have not received this tool may have to wait a bit longer.

Radar: More on X’s new tool

Besides spotting trends on X, users can also stay informed on the competitors in their respective fields. They can track specific products or brands by utilising specific exclusions and keywords. They can also customise their search by filtering out the keywords, accounts, media types, and more.

Although this tool was initially targeted towards marketers, people working in journalism, investigation or even content creators can use this tool. Those interested in simply internet gossip about influencers can also use Radar.

After the platform’s ban in Brazil, X faces a fine of $1.9 million if X wants to come back to the country. So the platform could resume activities in Brazil immediately if it pays the fine.

X has already been fined $3.4 million (18.3M reais) which was paid off by Brazil freezing Starlink and X’s accounts. However, Justice Alexandre de Moraes stated that Starlink would have to let go of its appeals against the payment. Furthermore, Moraes has stated X will face a penalty. This penalty is due to X’s failure to comply for two days to suspend the misuse of the server which consequently led to X’s ban in Brazil.

X’s ban in Brazil led sites like Bluesky and Tumblr to skyrocket in new users. Brazilians were looking for alternatives to X, formally known as Twitter. The Musk-owned site lost a huge chunk of its users since the platform was removed from Brazil. Despite the ban, there were talks about X returning to the country soon.

X Faces A Fine For Platform’s Reinstatement: More background on this legal feud

This whole legal battle started because Moraes filed a lawsuit against X. Brazil has strict laws on disinformation and Moraes demanded that X remove some of the accounts of some right-wingers. Musk fought back against Moraes’ demands deeming it to be an obstruction to free speech. However, in a surprising turn of events, X blocked the accounts. The company also agreed to pay the fines levied on them and appointed a legal Brazil representative, which they failed to do in the first place.

X is backtracking on its previous statements against Moraes and Brazil as a whole. When this whole fiasco first started, X and Musk called Moraes’s demands and threats of the ban unconstitutional. However, X’s Global Government Affairs account on X stated that they respected the ‘sovereignty of countries in which we operate’.

X’s block button has been essentially nerfed in an upcoming update as blocked users will now be able to view a person’s posts so long as they are public.

In a reply to a post on X, Elon Musk confirmed that the block function will allow blocked accounts to see the posts of the accounts that blocked them. Instead, accounts that have been blocked will no longer be able to interact with the account that blocked them. However, the blocked accounts will still be able to view the accounts’ posts and replies.

Before X’s block was modified, X prevented blocked accounts from viewing the account profile that blocked them in the first place. It also prevented the blocked users from viewing the account’s media, following and followers list and replies. However, Elon Musk was adamant about his stand on the X button. He has openly expressed his dislike towards the feature saying that it made no sense. Musk opted for a stronger kind of ‘mute’ function instead of an all-out block function.

X’s Block and the reception of this decision

The decision to revamp X’s block function has been met with backlash from the online community. There are plenty of reasons as to why someone would block a person on social media. Many people use the block button for personal safety purposes. Some people simply block accounts if they do not want to see someone’s content popping up on their timeline. However, the consensus is that the block button helped in reducing the amount of interaction and harassment from bad actors online.

It has been reported that X is bringing this new change for a reason. Blocked accounts can see posts of the person who blocked them by simply logging out or using a different account. So X has used this reasoning to justify modifying X’s block.

After Brazil banned X, Tumblr surged in users and user activity across the platform. The site has reported more than a 222% increase in community growth and a 349% growth in users.

Since Brazil’s ban on X, Tumblr has witnessed a 30% increase in daily users. Thi sis a stark difference from the total 110,000 daily users that Tumblr was averaging before the ban. The 30% increase comes from Brazil just a few days before the ban.

New users are not simply coming to Tumblr to check out the site but also creating these accounts. Tumblr has further stated that blogs and new community joins have also seen an increase. However, Tumblr has not provided a metric for this specific claim. Users from Brazil who have joined communities have been reported to be 5 times higher than other countries.

Tumblr is following right behind Bluesky, who has also seen a high surge in new users after the ban of X in Brazil. Bluesky had reported more than 500,000 new users a mere two days after X’s ban.

Tumblr Surges in Users: More background on Tumblr and X’s ban in Brazil

X was recently banned in Brazil due to the company’s compliance to follow Brazil’s rules on disinformation. Elon Muska and Brazillian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes famously got into a dispute after Musk refused to remove accounts deemed to spread political disinformation. X stood its ground but this did not sit well with Moraes and thus, he ordered the ban of X.

Users have also been discouraged from figuring out loopholes in accessing the platform. Those who are found to use a VPN to use X will be charged with a fine of up to $9000 a day.

On the other hand, Tumblr will be moving more than half a billion blogs over to WordPress. However, this will not affect anything on the surface as only the backend operations will be transferred to WordPress.

Suggested:

The Brazil X ban has sent hoards of past X users to Bluesky as an alternative to the social media app owned by Elon Musk.

It has been reported that more than 500,000 new users have joined the social media platform. Bluesky was co-founded by X’s former CEO, Jack Dorsey. This dramatic increase in new users occurred in just two days. Bluesky is currently the first-ranking free app in the iPhone chart in Brazil. Jay Graber, the current CEO of Blusesky has commended Brazil’s move to Bluesky, deeming it a ‘right choice’.

Bluesky has stated through its official accounts that the site is facing the highest levels of traffic and in-app activity. However, due to the high traffic in the app, the site will be facing a few issues in terms of performance. Outages are also to be expected as stated by a developer by Bluesky.

Brazil X Ban and the reasons behind the ban

Earlier this month, Elon Musk announced that X would cease operations in Brazil. However, due to X’s failure to follow Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes’ order to name an X legal and official representative in Brazil, the platform has faced a complete ban.

The Brazil X ban comes after X failed to adhere to Brazil’s rules against spreading political disinformation. The legal battle between X and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes started because the platform decided against blocking accounts spreading election disinformation.

Users have been warned against using a VPN to access X. Brazil will be fining anyone found using a VPN to use X. Fines up to 50,000 reais or $9,000 per day will be levied on those found guilty of using X after its ban. Other workarounds for using the app have also been discouraged.

This week, X introduced a fresh feature: the “Allow Incognito” setting for Spaces hosts. Now, hosts can choose whether non-logged-in or private users can join their chat sessions in the app. This new X incognito mode control puts the audio discussion in the hands of Spaces hosts, giving them the flexibility to decide who gets to participate.

In this example shared by app researcher Radu Onescu, Spaces hosts can now use the toggle to decide whether anonymous users can join their chats. This means hosts can open their Spaces to everyone or restrict access to logged-in users only. It’s a handy feature that puts control in the hands of hosts.

X Incognito Mode for Spaces

Anonymously joining Spaces is reminiscent of the choice to hide your verification checkmark in July. This recognizes that some now see the checkmark as a negative symbol, contradicting the original purpose of selling blue ticks.

Given X owner Elon Musk’s penchant for divisive stances and association with controversial figures, it’s understandable that some of his fans might prefer to create some distance, even if it’s just a matter of perception.

In Spaces chats, the same principle applies. Recently, Musk joined a Spaces discussion with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and influencer Andrew Tate. While many might be curious to tune in, only some people want it known they were listening.

Elon Musk stands for the same.

Musk’s offer to cover legal fees for X users facing career impacts underscores concerns about engaging on the app. It highlights the need for X incognito mode to enhance user privacy and engagement.

Although most users may not opt for anonymous logins in Spaces chats, it offers a valuable choice—allowing non-logged-in users to join and providing a discreet way for those interested in spicy discussions without linking it to their identity.

The new control option ensures space hosts maintain authority over anonymity. Currently, the feature is undergoing testing with selected users.

However, this uptick occurred against a backdrop of advertisers leaving the platform due to mounting worries about disinformation and hate speech. The contrasting dynamics of user growth and advertiser concerns highlight the complex landscape X navigates as it evolves.

More than 10 million people have signed up for X so far this December! pic.twitter.com/sW8cN2xM0Y
— Linda Yaccarino (@lindayaX) December 8, 2023

What CRO of X mentioned?

Yaccarino left the specifics unaddressed, leaving a gap regarding the number of paying users among the recent 10 million additions on Platform X. Moreover, she specified how this compares to a typical month.

Prominent brands such as Apple, Disney, IBM, and Lions Gate Entertainment have made headlines as they departed the platform in the past few months. Their decision to exit stems from concerns related to anti-Semitism, which they allege is tacitly endorsed by both the platform and its owner, Elon Musk.

Musk, who acquired the platform for $44 billion last year, faced criticism recently for endorsing a post that accused Jewish individuals of fostering hatred towards whites and supporting immigration by what was termed “hordes of minorities.” The controversies surrounding Musk and the platform’s exodus by major brands underscore X’s challenges in maintaining a balanced and inclusive online environment.

Platform X Lawsuit Against Media Matters

Platform X refutes allegations of promoting anti-Semitism and recently filed a lawsuit against liberal activist group Media Matters. The lawsuit, criticized by Media Matters as “frivolous,” claims that ads for major brands like Apple appeared alongside content praising Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.

Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion last year, lashed out at departing companies, accusing them of attempting to blackmail him. In a blunt message to advertisers, Musk said, “Go f**k yourself.”

Amidst the controversy, The New York Times reported last month that internal files suggest X may face a substantial loss of up to $75 million in advertising revenue by year-end due to declining ad revenues.

Back in August, Elon Musk had given a sneak peek of the upcoming feature, mentioning that users wouldn’t be required to have a phone number to access it. This Platform X functionality will be accessible on Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, and personal computers.

What is this new feature on Platform X?

Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, now called X. He has announced the upcoming launch of an initial release of video and audio calling features for a few users. This action represents an integral facet of Musk’s grand design in strategic maneuvering. His aim is to metamorphose X into an all-encompassing “omnibus application.”

Musk further alluded to a post within the platform, furnishing users with directives on activating this functionality He designating it as a “nascent iteration of video and auditory communication on X.”

This recent augmentation stands as merely one constituent of a myriad of novel attributes and modifications ushered into the bedrock user involvement on this platform since the acquisition by Elon Musk, an event nearly spanning a solar cycle.

After the rebranding of Twitter into X, Elon Musk unreservedly articulated his aspiration to transmute the X into an excellent application. It offers a gamut of services encompassing but not limited to electronic correspondence, social interconnectivity, and DMs.

Upcoming in X

At the moment, X is currently testing a subscription plan named “Not a Bot”. It has a price equivalent of US$1 (Rs 83) per year and is available in the Philippines and New Zealand. Users who choose not to subscribe will still be able to log in, follow other accounts, and view content. But they won’t be able to engage in actions like tweeting, sharing, liking, or bookmarking content. Moreover, it is specifically designed for the browser version of X.

What impact will X’s proposal to do away with headlines from shared links in posts have on content creators and marketers? Examine the effects in this article. Elon Musk confirmed information published by Fortune that X intends to get rid of the headlines and descriptions created when you share a link in a post. Future X posts with links are rumored to show an image alone, with a URL overlay, and no more content.

Twitter Cards In The Future

When tweets were restricted to 140 characters, the context-adding Twitter Cards format, which consists of a picture, headline, and a brief article description, was used to post links on the network. The information that appears on social media when users share an article link can be customized by content creators. Using tools like third-party WordPress plugins.

Anyone who publishes an external link in an X post must add additional content. To have a similarly engaging format as Twitter Cards feature has been changed to an image URL overlay. Alternatively, publishers will need to change how featured photos are formatted so that there is sufficient text to encourage X viewers to click through.

Content Creators And X

Following Musk’s advice to journalists and writers to post content directly on X. There will soon be a change in how connections to other websites are presented on X. He has previously remarked that he prefers the opinions of one person over those that are published.

Along with restoring banned individuals, X also has plans to update the mute and block system. Which many users use to filter out what they deem to be harmful content. X also disclosed additional brand safety measures and advertising collaborations during the same month. Additionally, it paid individual influencers who had a Twitter Blue subscription in its second wave of ad revenue payouts.
