YouTube Premium India will be raising its prices for all its Premium subscription plans for both new and old Premium subscribers.

All subscription tiers will be facing a price increase and some tiers will see a higher price hike while other plans may not be as drastically hit. YouTube Premium India has already reflected the new prices on its platform. The prepaid and other timed interval plans have been updated.

YouTube Premium India: Updated Prices

The Family Plan is the tier with the highest increase among all other tiers. The Family Plan has increased from Rs 189 to Rs 299 monthly showing a drastic hike in price. Furthermore, the Individual Plan priced at Rs 129 per month has increased to Rs 149 monthly.

Prepaid plans have also been updated with an increase from Rs 139 to Rs 159 per month. The six-month prepaid plan has increased to Rs 459 from Rs 399. Lastly, the yearly prepaid plan will now be priced at Rs 1490. This marks a Rs 200 hike from the older price of Rs 1290.

The Student Plan has also been affected by this price hike. However, it is the most affordable option compared to the rest of the tiers. The Student Plan has been priced at Rs 89 from Rs 79 which is only a Rs 10 difference.

YouTube has also increased the prices of YouTube Music as the Individual Plan which used to cost Rs 99 per month now costs Rs 199. However, if people are already subscribed to YouTube Premium India, they will be receiving YouTube Music as a part of the Premium bundle.

YouTube Premium update introduces new features for its subscription users. Some of the new features include Picture-in-Picture (PiP), Jump Ahead and Smart Downloads.

The video-sharing platform has recently introduced new features for its Premium subscribers. A few features already exist for long-form videos but the update has extended the feature to Shorts.

YouTube Premium Update and its new features

Picture-in-Picture feature for Shorts – This feature enables users to use play shorts in a smaller video in the background while they use their phone to browse other content or apps. This background play feature was already available for longer videos. YouTube is now rolling out this new feature on Android.

Jump Ahead – This new feature lets users double-tap on the video to get to the best parts of the video. To detect the ‘best part’ of the video, the video-sharing app combines the user’s viewing data with machine learning. Jump Ahead has been available for testing for a few weeks and it will gradually be available for all Android users soon. iOS will receive this feature later on.

Smart Downloads for Shorts – Smart Download is also coming to YouTube Shorts. This feature enables auto-downloading of shorts for users to view offline. This auto-download feature will be based on the users’ Shorts history.

Other features include an AI chatbot which allows users to ask questions or inquire about the video. Users can also ask the chatbot to provide video suggestions. This feature was available in 2023 but the company took it down. It will now make its comeback in Android for users in the United States. However, this feature is stated to be available only for a limited period.

Where once social media was just a mere streaming platform now holds a big marketing value. Users have reported witnessing more than 2 ads in a single video. This has caused frustration among many users, causing many to use third-party adblocking applications.

YouTube quite recently has streamlined its platform in a way that offers ad-free streaming services but only for premium users. This has amounted to lots of users switching to alternate browsers with adblocking applications to some installing extensions.

AdGuard is an ad-blocking service for Microsoft Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android, and iOS. AdGuard is also available as a browser extension. It has been one of the most used Adblocking applications used to block ads running on YouTube. Although AdGuard has not been affected by YouTube’s policy since its app doesn’t use YouTube’s API.

Must Read: 10 Useful Chrome Extensions To Try Out In 2024.

According to YouTube it only allows third-party apps to use their API when they follow their API Services Terms of Service. YouTube has now shown its concern for users using AdBlocking applications. It warns everyone using Adblockers. YouTube is encouraging its users to use the premium version to avoid advertisements. This might not be pleasant news to all users, but according to YouTube’s policy standards, it shall take appropriate actions if found not following the policy guidelines.

YouTube is focusing on building its walls of policies and guidelines stronger than before. We saw it planning on labeling AI content earlier this year. With this breakout of Adblocking applications, one can only argue that YouTube has lost its freedom as a streaming platform. Users have raised their voices on YouTube becoming a marketing hub lately, with companies promoting advertisements. However, the debate of good and bad will remain subjective.

A new policy that YouTube has revealed enables producers to get rid of warnings for breaking community rules by participating in educational training programs.

For the first time, YouTube is offering a standardized procedure for getting warnings removed with this release.

What’s Changing, Check out

YouTube penalizes videos and channels for breaking rules like spamming, phishing, violent/graphic material, and copyright infringement. A channel’s ability to publish fully monetized videos may be lost after obtaining a strike. In the event of repeated offences, YouTube may close the channel.

YouTube is aware that receiving strikes can be upsetting, especially for creators whose revenue comes from advertising. Previously, channel owners could only receive one warning during their existence. The individual warnings people get under the new system will depend on the rules they break specifically.

This strategy allows creators to comprehend why their work might have exceeded the boundary. After obtaining a warning for a first offence, creators can now enrol in a training course. The warning will be taken off their channel after 90 days of not breaking the same rule.

More Information Regarding The Courses

Each course is made to give artists a clearer understanding of the kinds of content prohibited by YouTube standards.

For instance, YouTube has policies banning sexual and dirty content. The rules do not, however, apply to educational content.

If a creator doesn’t include enough instructional context in a sexual health video they upload, they risk breaking YouTube’s rules. The creator can take a course on the rules they violate under YouTube’s new policy.

Unchanged YouTube Community Rules

YouTube made it clear that, even though these educational courses are new, its Community Guidelines and three-strikes policy remain in place.

Any content that transgresses YouTube’s rules will continue to be taken down, and creators who receive three strikes in 90 days risk being fired.

YouTube’s rules addressing serious or recurring content violations remain the same even for creators who have finished training programmes. The ability to enrol in future training sessions may be suspended for repeat offenders.

Now available on web browsers, YouTube 1080p Premium offers better video quality for greater interaction. It was previously available only on the iOS app. According to YouTube, 1080p Premium will soon be available on web browsers in addition to the iOS app, providing viewers with more options for watching high-quality, incredibly engaging videos.

Enhanced bitrate 1080p Premium

The higher resolution amplifies the bitrate of many videos rather than increasing the resolution, which frequently produces a more detailed, crisper image with improved clarity, as first reported by 9to5Google.

The Verge received confirmation from Paul Pennington, a representative for YouTube, that the 1080p Premium rollout has begun for internet users.

Interestingly, regardless of whether a user has a membership, the advanced 1080p option is available to them all.

The customer is prompted to subscribe for better quality if they click it without a Premium subscription, though.

Other 1080p Premium-capable devices

Along with web users, YouTube also disclosed that several TV devices including gaming consoles and Chromecasts by Google can now access the enhanced feature. These devices include non-Android Chromecasts. Unfortunately, the details were not specified.

A notable first for YouTube is the choice to expand the feature to platforms other than iOS. Observations from June indicated that certain Android users could now stream at a higher bitrate, but the feature hasn’t yet spread extensively.

A Major Change for Content Producers

For video producers, the expansion of YouTube subscribers who can view content in a better resolution is important.

With YouTube’s 1080p Premium, video quality will increase, making it a more useful tool for marketing initiatives.

User engagement, which is important for search results and content marketing, can rise with improved video quality. As a result, experts ought to think about including better video material in their plans.
