In order to expand the number of producers who can participate in its YouTube Partner Programme (YPP), YouTube stated that it is implementing new eligibility restrictions.

Channels will have earlier access to monetization tools including channel memberships, super chats, super stickers, and product sales thanks to the expansion.

What is the Partner Programme for YouTube’s “New Level”?

For creators in the US, UK, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea, YouTube simplified the eligibility requirements for the partner program in June.

To qualify for YPP, channels simply require 500 subscribers and 3,000 watch hours over the previous year. 4,000 watch hours over the previous 12 months and 1,000 subscribers were the previous requirements.

Several more nations in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia are getting lower eligibility requirements thanks to YouTube.

Through YouTube Studio, you may determine your eligibility and apply

Creators who have been given the YPP seal of approval have access to Channel Memberships. As well as Super Chats, Super Stickers, and goods sales.

Aside from becoming eligible for ad income sharing, creators also need to reach 1,000 subscribers. And 4,000 watch hours, or 10 million views of Shorts in the previous 12 months.

There are no changes to the program advantages for partners who are already enrolled in YPP. It’s important to note that channels risk losing their ability to monetize if they go more than six months without publishing any new content.

Creators in 33 more nations can join the YPP with a lower entry requirement. Creators can apply for access to services that generate revenue, such as channel memberships and Super Chats. After obtaining 500 subscribers.

The threshold for earning from advertisements is 1,000 subscribers. Over the following month, the new YPP eligibility rules will continue to be implemented.

YouTube shows how its Shorts algorithm promotes high-quality videos viewers will enjoy rather than ones created with the intention of abusing the system.

In an interview with Todd Sherman, the YouTube Shorts product director, YouTube recently gave producers more information on how their algorithm for shorts functions.

The session attempted to dispel many misconceptions that producers may have regarding the Shorts algorithm and how it differs from YouTube’s algorithm for long-form videos.

In this post, we go into the 11-minute dialogue, which discusses the value of creating content with an audience in mind, what a “view” is, and the tactical reasons behind the length and personalization of videos.

Audience and the Algorithm

Sherman claims that the main objective of the long-form and Shorts algorithms is to connect users with relevant videos.

The adage “don’t think algorithm, think audience” applies to short-form content just like it does to long-form material, Sherman emphasized. He stated, “The audience is the algorithm.”

Since short-form content has a distinct format, the algorithm behaves differently for it. We want [viewers] to be happy with the videos, according to Sherman. However, a lot of what we do in short form is sort of unique and is centered around the short form’s basics.

Ideal for short videos

In response to a question on the appropriate length for a Short, Sherman advised writers to place a higher priority on storytelling than aiming for a particular time frame.

The majority of traffic to Shorts comes through the feed rather than the Shorts shelf, he added, addressing the issue of thumbnail personalization.

The team has therefore opted to forgo providing unique thumbnails in favour of letting producers choose a frame from their movie as the thumbnail.

YouTube will disable the ability to click on Shorts links, do rid of banner links, and allow artists to use new profile links to showcase content in order to reduce spam and fraud.

In an effort to combat fraud and spam on its platform, YouTube has introduced new rules.

Links in comments and descriptions of YouTube Shorts will gradually stop working as of August 31, 2023. This adjustment, according to YouTube, attempts to reduce spam and phishing.

The business will introduce a new method for channel page creators to share important connections. On August 10, creators can begin setting up these new profile links, and on August 23, viewers will start seeing them.

On August 10, 2023, YouTube will also stop using banner links altogether.

Channel Links: A New Approach

Moving away from conventional banner links, YouTube is introducing a new feature that will allow creators to highlight essential links on their channel sites.

As a result, producers will be able to more easily and seamlessly connect viewers to important material by directly displaying links on their channel sites.

Links can be openly displayed on creators’ channel pages as opposed to being tucked away in banners.

Making Content Links More Useful for Content Discovery

In late September, YouTube will begin adding content links for Shorts videos. The creators of Shorts can link their videos to other Shorts using these links. This can help users identify more pertinent material and encourage cross-promotion between creators.

The ecosystem of YouTube Shorts should be strengthened by becoming more linked and coherent. With its new linking policies, it hopes to reduce spammy linking while still enabling creators to distribute appropriate material.

Links in Shorts will stop working as of August 31. Banner links will be eliminated on August 10 and creators can replace them with fresh profile links.

While waiting, viewers should use caution when clicking unidentified links in YouTube Shorts.

In a recent announcement on YouTube, they confirmed that the stories section will be removed soon. The features users use to add updates will stay there for 7 days. Later on, it will discontinue on June 26, 2023.

The start and end of YouTube Stories

Introduced in 2018, Stories were initially accessible to content creators who had amassed over 10,000 subscribers.

The tool was created to facilitate the sharing of behind-the-scenes updates, vlogs, sneak peeks at upcoming videos, and quick announcements.

The recent decision to discontinue the feature comes as a response to varied feedback from users and creators. Some individuals expressed discomfort with the feature, considering it unconventional, while others highlighted its limitations, such as the absence of swipe-up and video-linking capabilities.

YouTube Shorts & Community Posts: New Frontier

With the discontinuation of Stories on YouTube, the platform now shifts its attention to utilizing community posts and YouTube Shorts.

In a recent update, YouTube has extended access to community posts to many creators, offering them popular features in Stories. These additions include editing tools that enable posts to vanish after 24 hours.

According to the company, community posts on YouTube consistently generate significantly more comments and likes than Stories.

Meanwhile, YouTube Shorts has emerged as a formidable competitor to TikTok in short-form video content. Despite initial challenges, including technical difficulties and a lack of monetization options, YouTube Shorts has established itself as a valuable tool for fostering engagement and attracting new subscribers.

After YouTube Stories Monetize with Shorts

YouTube has taken significant steps toward enhancing the monetization of Shorts. On February 1, 2023, the platform introduced a new process where revenue from advertisements shown between Shorts clips will be distributed among eligible creators.

This updated revenue-sharing model replaces the previous YouTube Shorts Fund and is considered a more sustainable approach to compensate creators for their contributions.
