Ask Photos rolls out officially after a month-long wait period. This is an AI-powered feature that enables users to receive photos from their library based on the prompts they provide. However, this feature is only available to some select users in the US.

Google had opened a waitlist for users to test this new feature out around September but the feature has just started rolling out. This feature works on both iOS and Android. Users with the feature will notice it on Google Photos on the bottom bar. The users can even use the classic search. However, they can only do so after they have asked the question on Ask Photos.

Once users have opened this feature, they will have to provide and confirm details. Some of these details include making sure that people have the correct names. The users will also have to define the relationships they have with people.

Ask Photos Rolls out: How this feature works

Ask Photos is an AI-powered feature that goes through the user’s Google Photos library to retrieve relevant photos. For instance, when a user asks the AI when was the last time they ate at a restaurant, the AI would fetch an image from the user’s gallery. There would also be a description of the image provided to the user, and it would be filled with details of the event.

It has been noted by several users that the feature works best when asked about places and people. The feature seemingly does not perform the best when asked about events. It is a great way for users to recall past events that took place and make it easier for them to get specific images instead of manually going through each picture in their gallery.

Ask Photos is currently only exclusive to the US to select users. However, the feature is expected to roll out to even more users as the weeks go by.

Google Photos is rolling out a new AI-powered feature termed Ask Photos. This feature enables users to retrieve pictures with queries provided to the AI.

The AI-powered feature will be rolled out as an early access feature to select customers in the US region. Google Photos will be expanding this feature globally later on. This feature is powered by Google’s AI model, Gemini AI. It allows users to search for specified photos through the AI. Users can simply give descriptive queries related to the content of their photos. The AI will then leverage the user’s data and retrieve the required photos.

The AI-powered feature is particularly useful as photo libraries grow bigger and bigger. It becomes tedious to go through thousands of photos to get one specific picture. Therefore, this feature makes it much more easier and convenient for users to find what they are looking for. Users can describe the picture and the AI will fetch the picture closest to the user’s description.

Ask Photos: More on this feature

Users can also narrow down the search results by relevance or date which fetches the pictures faster. This feature studies the context of a user’s photo gallery and keeps in mind the user’s hobbies, friends, favourite drinks and so on. This helps in studying relevant information needed to retrieve the photos.

Furthermore, this feature also assists the users with getting tasks done with ease. For instance, users can ask the AI to show the best pictures taken from a certain event. Users can also ask the AI to summarise the activities a user did during a picnic or trip with family.

Users interested in getting this feature can sign up for the waitlist for early access. However, it is only limited to users in the US as of now.
