Netflix is ending support for select iPhones and iPad devices. This move by Netflix comes after the unveiling of the new iOS 18 version.

Support for the devices could stop anytime next week as iOS 18 will be out by then. Devices still using iOS 16 will be affected by this change. To be able to run Netflix, users will have to install iOS 17 or higher to use the streaming app. Users can still use Netflix if their phone falls under the category of discontinued support Netflix users for these devices can still access the accounts and rt. But no more updates will be given to these devices.

The affected iPhones and iPads include the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPad Pro (1st generation) and iPad (5th generation). Users who are still on iOS 16 will still be able to go into account and perform all functions just like before. It will simply stop receiving updates.

Netflix is ending support: Possible reason behind this discontinued support

This decision by Netflix to end support for select devices may be met with backlash by some. However, it is important to remember that such changes are necessary when it comes to maintaining apps. If users continue with the older version, their device could be compromised by the lack of security.

Apps such as WhatsApp have also undergone something similar. WhatsApp has reported around 35 phones across different brands such as Apple, Samsung, LG and more. Smartphones had to have at least Android 5.0 or an iOS 12 system if they wanted to continue using the app. Otherwise, they were left with no choice to to upgrade to new mobile options. Users could also back up their chats in their Google Drive to not lose the receipt.
