Google has stated that due to the decline in usage of the Sitelinks Search Box, the visual element will thus be removed starting November 21, 2024. This change will be applied worldwide in all search results, countries and every language.

On Google’s official website for Developers, the announcement also includes that this change will not affect any site links visual element to rankings. It will also not be listed on the Search status dashboard. After this change takes effect and Google stops showing its sitebinks search box in Search, the next step is to take out the Search Console rich results report. Markups in the Rich Results Test will also no longer be highlighted.

Unsupported structured data will not cause any trouble in the Search nor will it bring about any issues relating to reports in the Search Console. This means that users do not need to remove sitelinks search box structure data from their websites. However, if they proceed to remove them, they should be wary that since site names contain a variation of WebSite structured data, it will thus continue to be supported.

Sitelinks Search Box: More on this visual element

The Sitelinks search box was introduced back in 2014. It was brought in to enable users to make site-specific searches right from Google’s own search results page. This visual element was viewable right above the sitelinks, especially when users search by a company name.

This tool by Google assisted users in finding super-specific site content much more easily. It also supported autocomplete and even let sites perform schema markup to integrate more efficiently in the search page.

Google Search will officially integrate with the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine to show users the archived websites from Google’s search result page.

The Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine integration comes after Google removed the cache link feature on Google Search. However, this does not exactly address the complaints and concerns regarding the withdrawal of cache links from the Google Search results.

The Internet Archive started the Wayback Machine in the year 1996. The public release of this archive was launched later in 2001. It was co-founded by Bruce Giliat and Brewster Kahle to preserve digital copies of all discontinued websites on the internet. The Wayback Machine acts as a digital archive for the World Wide Web. This digital library saves is also designed to act as a website crawler. It downloads all public information and data available on web pages.

Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine: Its official integration with Google Search

The integration of the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine into Google Search is now rolling out to its users. With this new feature, archived websites will be shown in the Google Search results. This gives users more options to choose from. To see how this integration has taken place, users can click on the dots located right by every search result. After which, users have to click on the ‘About this Result’ option and then click on the ‘More About This Page’ option. Users will then be directed to an archived version of the webpage which shows how the website looks at different periods.

Google recognises the need for an internet library, especially for those involved in the research field. Being able to see how the websites looked in different eras gives people access to information and content that is not as easily accessible.

Google has officially launched its August 2024 core updates and it is expected to take a full month to roll out fully. The tech giant has stated that the update will foster functional content from independent and smaller publishers.

The new core update has been developed to improve the search result quality by letting people view useful content. It also aims to show people content beyond those solely made to perform on the Search results.

John Mueller, a Google Search Advocate has stated that the recent core update considers the feedback from several creators from the past few months. Creators have been asked to make more meaningful content to make sure that the content published has quality. The March 2024 core update was the update before the Google August 2024 core update and it served to be the largest core update yet.

Google August 2024 Core Update: Ranking Bug Issues Resolved

Google confirmed that there was a ranking bug less than 24 hours after the update was released on 15 August. The company took over 4 days to resolve the issue. Mueller expressed that the team was not satisfied with the overall update so another update was rolled out to fix any inaccuracies.

The ranking bug affected a huge amount of search results. Users have been advised to wait a while to see where their site ranks. Moreover, the update stated that it would take a whole month to roll out thus rankings may also be affected.

The Trending Now section has gotten an updated design on Google Trends. This new design makes it easier for users to navigate through the Trending Now section.

The updated Trending Now section can now position more trending searches in a proper listing. With the new look, users can now view details such as Search Volume and Trend Breakdown. Users can also see when the search queries started to trend and a chart has even been provided showing the levels of its popularity.

There is also a filtering option available at the top of the section which allows users to filter by relevance, trends, time interval and country. Additionally, users are given an export option which lets them download CSV. Under the Export tab, users can also copy to the clipboard and view the RSS feed.

Trending Now and Google Trends

Google Trends is a tool provided by Google which helps users find out what searches are popular or trending. It gives users insights into the popularity of search queries in certain places, times, languages, and other metrics. However, Google Trends does not analyse the search queries made by a few people. This tool is beneficial for SEO purposes and market research. This Google feature can provide users with Keywords and inspiration for content.

Trending Now is a section under this feature that is seen next to the Explore and Home sections. This section shows the most searched queries and topics happening in real-time.

Manual Hreflang Annotations are expected to lose more relevance as Google may move forward with auto-language detection instead. This was hinted at during an episode of Search Off The Record, a podcast hosted by the people at Google Search.

Google Search analyst, Gary Ilyes has opined that search engines ought to reduce their dependence on site annotations, annotations. Instead of annotations, Ilyes wishes for more automation. To support his statement, Ilyes remarks that this line of action is much more dependable than manual annotations such as Hreflang.

Hreflang is an attribute of HTML which enables users to designate a site’s geographical targeting and language.

Manual Hreflang Annotations and Its Impending Irrelevance

The Google podcast also discussed the present condition of Hreflang. The podcast stated that a mere 9% of websites utilise the manual Hreflang annotations. This alarming low percentage of Hreflang annotations could have had a hand in Google’s move towards auto language detection. However, Ilyes has also acknowledged the occasional necessity for manual annotations.

This change of course into auto language detection might come with several notable results. For instance, big websites with more languages are lifted from the technical burdens of applying the Hreflang annotations.

However, Google has not made any official announcements about this hinted change. But users should be able to adjust their SEO plans if Google makes the shift official.

Google Notes on Search, an experiment by Google Search Labs finally closing by the end of July. The announcement for the closing down was made back in April 2024.

Google has announced through an official document that the deadline for the Notes’ termination is the end of July. Furthermore, the company reminded users to download their Notes content and failure to do so before the deadline would mean the data would be lost. There are no ways to retrieve the data once it has been lost.

Google has announced that users can download the content of their notes through the Google Accounts feature called Google Takeout. Users can transfer and download data from various Google services such as Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Photos.

When the feature first launched, Notes did not generate much positive attention. It seemed as though this experiment by Google was meant to stay a timed experiment.

Google Notes: More on This Google Feature

This feature which was only available for Apple and Android devices was meant to be a feedback service. It enabled users to annotate and add comments or tips for search results. This feedback was used to improve and build on the search results.

Users who signed up for the feature were able to see Notes and Add Note buttons virtually everywhere on their browsers. It created a type of forum where users could provide their insights and comments on how to improve the search results.

Parasite SEO is an SEO method that works best when conventional SEO practices do not leverage websites’ authority to improve a user’s website exposure in search engine results. This method can be applied when conventional SEO practices do not garner much website traffic.

This SEO method is perfect for recently created websites that require a push to increase site visibility. This strategy starts by publishing content on high-domain authority platforms, which include popular blogs, prominent social media sites such as Facebook and X, and notable forums. After which, users will notice a noticeably large improvement in the search rank position of their published content.

It should be noted that there are several risks associated with using parasite SEO. Since users post their content on a host platform, success can only be determined by the hosts themselves. Modification in the host’s SEO policies and guidelines as well as a change in the ranking may affect the user’s content. Users must also adhere strictly to the host platforms’s policies and guidelines to avoid any ramifications.

Parasite SEO: Factors to consider while choosing this method

This SEO method should only be adopted after considering the risks associated and a couple of other factors. For instance, if users just want a fast boost in website visibility and traffic, parasite SEO is the perfect fit.

It is also quite economical making it more accessible for people who do not have a high budget for other SEO campaigns. Another factor to consider while choosing this SEO practice is the difficulty in ranking in a higher position.
