Bluesky video support has been introduced in the platform and users will be able to upload videos of up to sixty seconds on the desktop and mobile versions.

Before Bluesky video support was available, the platform was limited to texts, images, reposts, messages and replies. But with this new feature, Bluesky is expected to rise to the ranks of the likes of X, Instagram Threads and more. The platform still has a long way to go to reach the same level of users as the other top social media platforms. However, this journey to the top might not even take that long. This is because the platform recently saw a drastic increase in new registered users from Brazil after X was banned in the country.

To check the feature’s availability, users have to refresh their desktop app. They can also update the app to the latest version 1.91. Bluesky has stated that videos will be auto-played as default. But this can easily be turned off through the settings menu. Users can even add subtitles to their videos. Labels can also be applied to the videos.

Bluesky Video Support: What the new feature entails

There is a limitation with the Bluesky video support. For instance, users can only upload up to 25 videos a day. On another note, Bluesky has also taken steps to protect the platform from spam and harmful and malicious content. The social media platform requires users to verify their email addresses to go ahead with their video uploads. Bluesky will restrict the specific users’ video upload capability if they are repeatedly found guilty of violating the site’s guidelines.

Furthermore, Bluesky will be running its videos through Hive and Thorn. This ensures that illegal content such as Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) does not under any condition get posted on Bluesky.

The Brazil X ban has sent hoards of past X users to Bluesky as an alternative to the social media app owned by Elon Musk.

It has been reported that more than 500,000 new users have joined the social media platform. Bluesky was co-founded by X’s former CEO, Jack Dorsey. This dramatic increase in new users occurred in just two days. Bluesky is currently the first-ranking free app in the iPhone chart in Brazil. Jay Graber, the current CEO of Blusesky has commended Brazil’s move to Bluesky, deeming it a ‘right choice’.

Bluesky has stated through its official accounts that the site is facing the highest levels of traffic and in-app activity. However, due to the high traffic in the app, the site will be facing a few issues in terms of performance. Outages are also to be expected as stated by a developer by Bluesky.

Brazil X Ban and the reasons behind the ban

Earlier this month, Elon Musk announced that X would cease operations in Brazil. However, due to X’s failure to follow Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes’ order to name an X legal and official representative in Brazil, the platform has faced a complete ban.

The Brazil X ban comes after X failed to adhere to Brazil’s rules against spreading political disinformation. The legal battle between X and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes started because the platform decided against blocking accounts spreading election disinformation.

Users have been warned against using a VPN to access X. Brazil will be fining anyone found using a VPN to use X. Fines up to 50,000 reais or $9,000 per day will be levied on those found guilty of using X after its ban. Other workarounds for using the app have also been discouraged.

Bluesky Starter Pack has been introduced on the platform to assist users in creating curated and customised feeds.

It can be quite daunting for new users to find accounts they resonate with or find interesting. This new feature aims to combat this by enabling users to find content that aligns with the users’ interests. This in turn creates a more personalised and curated feed.

However, new users are not the only ones who can access this new feature. Existing Bluesky users can also utilise this feature. Users can add up to 50 accounts as well as 3 custom feeds.

Bluesky Starter Pack and how to access it

Users can use starter packs by scanning a QR code shared by someone with the feature. Users can also access this feature by publishing a post containing the link to the starter pack. Bluesky stated that the feature is currently unavailable on the searches so users have to use other methods to access the feature.

Other customisation tools such as restricting conversations to specific people and the ability to discover even more accounts and feeds in the search and explore section were recently introduced.

Starter packs will start rolling out on the Bluesky app on Android, iOS and desktop.

Bluesky is a social media platform created by X’s former CEO, Jack Dorsey in 2021. The app previously had an invite-only system to create an account on the platform but it has now dropped this system, thus allowing an easier way of signing up.
