Google will be rolling out a new Google Lens update which expands the visual search capability to videos. This feature which is available for both iOS and Android will feature a customised model of Gemini.

This new feature is made possible through the newly introduced customised Gemini model. It makes the model analyse the content of the videos to provide answers for the user. An executive member of the Lens team has stated that Google Lens will create an overview which provides answers to the user’s queries. For instance, if a person wants to learn about a bird sitting on top of a tree, the user can use the Lens and the AI will analyse whatever is in front of it and provide an overview of the bird; what species they belong to and other relevant information.

Users who are interested in using this new Google Lens feature will have to sign up for Google’s Search Labs. Interested individuals will have to choose the ‘AI Overviews and More’ feature in Search Labs.

Google Lens Update: How to use the new feature

Within Google’s app, the users will have to press down on their phone’s shutter button. This will turn on the video mode on Lens. Users can even ask queries while taking the video. Lens will then provide answers as crafted by AI Overviews. The company has stated that Lens utilises AI to figure out which part of the video or which frames are the most interesting or relevant to the questions being asked by the user.

Google has also introduced a new feature within Lens. Lens users will now be able to search by using images and texts simultaneously. Google Lens is also receiving a new feature which displays information about a specific product. The Product ID will provide users with information regarding the price, reviews, brands and more.

Google Lens has finally arrived in the desktop version of Chrome. This new feature is being rolled out alongside two other AI features in a new update by Google.

Google Lens is a feature that has been available on phone versions since 2017. Now, users can use this feature in the desktop version of their Chrome browser. This will allow desktop users to search and enquire about any topic viewable on that website without leaving that tab.

After users switch on the Google Lens feature, they will then be able to view results and visual match on a panel on the right side. Additionally, users can utilise the multisearch option to enhance their search results by selecting specific details such as colour, brands, sizes and so on. Users can also ask follow-up questions and may be given an AI-generated overview depending on the questions asked.

Google Lens and The Other AI Features Introduced

Besides the introduction of Google Lens to desktops, the tech company is also rolling out two additional AI features.

All of the three new AI features are said to improve users’ Chrome browsing experience. Google has stated that the Chrome experience will now be safer, quicker and more helpful. For instance, one of the newly introduced features lets users find their visited sites more naturally all thanks to AI. Users can go to their history tab and type in a question relevant to the site they want to find.

The other AI-powered feature is the Tab compare which enables users to compare products on various sites which assists users in their online shopping experience. Chrome intends to provide users with an AI-generated rundown in the multiple tabs opened. Details of the products ranging from their specs to ratings will be provided to assist in deciding which products to buy.
