Two weeks after the WordPress-WP Engine feud started, WordPress Executive Director, Josepha Haden Chomphosy officially resigned. Her resignation thus ends a tenure lasting over nine years.

Chomphosy uploaded a notice on her blog, officially announcing her resignation as the WordPress Executive Director. Her blog expresses her strong belief in the ‘global community of contributors’. She also believes there is a long way to go in attaining a self-sustaining future of open source. The former Executive Director has also acknowledged the need for more opportunities that open sources can provide.

Co-founder of WordPress and CEO of Automattic, Matt Mullenweg confirmed Chomphosy’s resignation on October 2. Mullenweg had posted on X that he had spoken to Chomphosy and confirmed she was no longer working with the company. However, the post was later deleted as Chomphosy posted her response the very next day. In her post, she apologised for the delivery of the news and said that it was not how she expected it to be announced.

WordPress’ Executive Director resigned during the feud

The former WordPress Executive Director announced her resignation at the peak of the WordPress-WP Engine drama. This entire feud by started by Matt Mullenweg and later snowballed into an entire lawsuit by WP Engine accusing the Automattic CEO of extortion and libel.

It is up in the air regarding the reasons behind Chomphosy’s resignation. Although her resignation came in during the whole feud between the two companies, there is no confirmation that she resigned because of the feud. In her resignation announcement, Chomphosy did not make any mention of the fiasco either.

Mullenweg has also uploaded a blog post with an exit offer for Automattic employees who did not agree with Mullenweg. Over 8% of employees had exited and they were compensated with a severance package of $30,000 or six months of salary.

Cards Against Humanity is demanding $15 million in damages in a lawsuit against Elon Musk. This lawsuit filed against Musk alleges that SpaceX has illegally trespassed and damaged private company property.

For the past six months, SpaceX has been alleged to treat private property belonging to Cards Against Humanity’s property as their own. The property is located in Cameron County, Texas. So the lawsuit has been filed in the Texas State Court.

CAH has claimed that SpaceX has destroyed the once natural and green property with the “gravel, tractors, and space garbage”. The land was cleared of its vegetation and the soil was compacted due to all the gravel and other erosive material. CAH has also confronted Musk’s company. But SpaceX offered to buy the property for half its value, a response that CAH did not receive well.

Cards Against Humanity: More on the legal battle against Musk and SpaceX

Cards Against Humanity, the company behind the popular card game of the same name, bought the property back in 2017. It was purchased to make it as difficult as possible for former US president Donald Trump to build a border wall. Around 150,000 people donated $15 to fund the company’s cause so SpaceX destroying the prompt has also in turn damaged the relationship between the relationship between CAH and its supporters, as per claims in the lawsuit.

Cards Against Humanity has promised its donors that if they win this lawsuit, all $15 donors would receive $100 each. However, the company has admitted that Musk’s plethora of lawyers may result in each donor receiving only $2. Campaign donors have been asked to post on “Twitter”, not “X” to spread the word about this ongoing lawsuit. The campaign’s donors are asked to link www.ElonOwesYou100Dollars.com in their posts.

Yelp sues Google as revealed by an official blog post by Yelp’s co-founder and CEO, Jeremy Stoppelman. The company officially filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google on 28th, 2024.

Google, termed by Stoppelman as the ‘largest information gatekeeping’ has been accused of creating a monopoly in local search services and local search advertising markets. Google is said to have been participating in ant-competitive activities ultimately leading to the decrease in search result quality. Not only has Google’s monopoly affected the quality of the search results, it has also stomped over its rivals just to increase the company’s power in the market.

Yelp has also gone on record saying that it has tried long and hard to fight against Google’s anti-competitive antics. The company states that it wants to make a more equal playing field for all other search services in the market to foster healthy competition. Yelp’s main goals are to ensure healthy competition and the protection of consumer choices. Additionally, other goalposts include the recovery of damages and to curb Google; ‘s anti-competitiveness.

Yelp Sues Google: Google’s Monopoly In Local Search Services

It has been reported that Google has recently been caught obtaining its monopoly through illegal means. This includes exclusive deals with several manufacturers, cell carriers, and browser creators. This means that Google controls where and what content the consumers are exposed to. This has consequently led to the rising monopolistic dominance of Google over the local search markets.

Google has allegedly manipulated results to enhance its local search results over its rivals. The tech giant has been accused of promoting sub-par quality results since it does not want consumers to leave the site and seek other alternative search services.

Google’s monopolistic tendencies have also affected businesses in other vertical search services. Yelp, the search service that has filed the lawsuit is one of Google’s affected rivals. Due to Google’s abuse of its dominance, ad revenue and traffic have drastically decreased, despite the other services providing higher quality in terms of local search results.

Apple’s App Store violates the European Union’s Digital Markets Act due to its questionable steering policies. If Apple is found guilty, the company faces up to 10% of Annual Global Revenue in fines.

The European Union Commission opened an investigation against Apple, Meta and Google earlier in March. Apple is the first to be charged under the DMA rules as preliminary findings have revealed the tech giant now faces fines due to its breach.

The DMA directs gatekeepers such as Apple, Amazon, Alphabet and others to enable app developers to ‘steer’ consumers to third-party apps that are usually free. However, installing a third-party app is not as smooth as it seems.

Users go through a lengthy process by opening the Settings app and accepting app installations, as the web browser usually indicates an error. Pop-ups are then shown in the browser. These pop-ups detail the risks of downloading a third-party app. Thus, this discourages potential users from downloading the app.

Apple’s App Store violation and its past breaches

Peter Ajemian, Apple’s Spokesperson spoke to The Verge, “Throughout the past several months, Apple has made many changes to comply with the DMA in response to feedback from developers and the European Commission.”

Ajemian states, “All developers doing business in the EU on the App Store have the opportunity to utilize the capabilities that we have introduced,” He continues, “including the ability to direct app users to the web to complete purchases at a very competitive rate.”

Apple could face fines of up to 10% of its annual global revenue. However, the tech giant is no stranger to getting fined. In 2020, legal action was launched against Apple’s App Store and Apple Pay practices after Spotify filed an antitrust complaint. This lawsuit resulted in Apple paying over €1.84 billion in fines.
