WordPress AMP Plugin, boasting over 100,000 installs, just dealt with a medium-level vulnerability. This little loophole had the potential for trouble, allowing sneaky attackers to slide in malicious scripts, turning your website into an unintended party zone for unwelcome guests.

But fear not! The AMP plugin has tightened things up to keep your virtual doors secure. It’s always a good call to stay on top of updates and ensure your website is running the latest version for a smooth and safe online experience.

WordPress AMP Plugin Shortcode Opening the Door to Cross-Site Scripting

Cross-site scripting (XSS) is a common vulnerability, especially in WordPress plugins. Here’s the lowdown: XSS happens when a plugin like WordPress AMP Plugin lets data sneak in without proper security checks.

Think of sanitization as the bouncer at the club it blocks the unwanted guests. For instance, if a plugin lets users drop text in an input field, it should scrub anything odd, like a script or a sneaky zip file.

Now, shortcodes are like magic tags in WordPress. Users can slap on a [example] tag in posts, and boom! a plugin’s functionality shows up. It’s like configuring a plugin backstage and then dropping the shortcode on stage for everyone to see in a post or page.

Plugin’s Different Versions

A security glitch called “cross-site scripting via shortcode” lets troublemakers inject nasty scripts into a website. According to Patchstack, a WordPress security whiz, this could mean anything from redirects to ads, triggering when innocent visitors drop by.

The good news is that the glitch was fixed in version 1.0.89. Wordfence, another watchdog, explains that WordPress’s Accelerated Mobile Pages plugin was the culprit, playing loose with input checks in versions up to 1.0.88.1.

Here’s the kicker: the bad actor needs at least contributor-level permissions to pull off this stunt. Patchstack rates it a 6.5 out of 10 on the severity scale. Better safe than sorry, ensure your WordPress AMP Plugin is rocking version 1.0.89 or higher.

Making a fully functional online store is simple thanks to a new WordPress platform augmented with AI technology. Six features that establish a workflow for rapidly and easily launching a website or store using WordPress have been made available, according to an announcement from Bluehost.

The new tool, WonderSuite, acts as a co-pilot for publishers, offering AI-based direction at each stop along the road. With the help of the product suite, the open-source WordPress ecosystem can benefit from the click-and-build web development simplicity that is common in closed-source software.

Here are the Advanced Attributes

The new system has six parts, which deal with:

Onboarding

In this initial step, the user responds to a series of queries that aid the system in picking out the components required to build the new website automatically.

Theme

Starting with a versatile theme that offers pattern alternatives, the website is created before moving on to the following level.

WordPress Blocks

This is a collection of WordPress block patterns, which serve as the foundation for any website. By doing this, the website is tailored to the demands of the user and its intended use.

AI WonderHelp Support

This module provides direction throughout the entire process. Apparently from Bluehost:

“An actionable, AI-powered step-by-step manual to assist users with the creation of WordPress websites.

For instance, WonderHelp offers a step-by-step tutorial within the site builder and walks users through the entire process with those instructions incorporated throughout each page, saving them from having to utilize a search engine to learn “How to create a blog in WordPress?”

WordPress made simple

WordPress is intended to make creation simple right out of the box. While the basic setup is easy, creating a well-designed website still requires some talent and knowledge.

Anyone can use WordPress, the most reputable website publishing platform in the world, to develop a fully featured e-commerce site thanks to Bluehost’s new WonderSuite.

WordPress 6.4 development has begun with a post by Editor Triage Co-Lead Anne McCarthy. Outlining all of the plans the team has for the release. This third big release of 2023 is special in that a release squad with a low female representation is in charge of it.

WordPress is entering Phase 3 of the Gutenberg project. Which is centered on collaboration, but 6.4 will mostly focus on extending current capabilities in the block and site editors.

According to McCarthy, “Phase 3 initial explorations will continue in the Gutenberg plugin. And any early successes will add alongside the foundational work already scheduled in this major release.”

A Font Library, server-side @font-face CSS creation, and printing are expected to be included in WordPress 6.4’s typography management tools. In the admin, users will therefore be able to explore a library of fonts in a manner akin to how they handle media. It will be a library that plugin authors can extend, thus it won’t be reliant on the active theme.

The following new features are also anticipated for 6.4:

Updates to templates and template components

Time to Read, Table of Contents, and Scrolling are new blocks. Individual picture blocks with marquee Lightbox functionality

automatic block insert

Block-style post formats

Enhancements to the authoring process and link management UI

Interface and tool updates include a top toolbar, distraction-free mode, a command palette, list views, and more.

Site Editing, Global Styles, and design tools have to be improved and refined.

Updates to Patterns include the option to select categories, an improved inserter, and an investigation into the possibility of including partially synced patterns.

Enhancements to administration and customization of navigation

Footnote design tools should be expanded, and Custom Post Types should be compatible.
