Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, also said that voice authentication by the banks is “Terrifying.”

A report from Business Insider says that Altman spoke at a conference. He mentioned that the world is relying more on old authentication methods. He noted that AI has outsmarted these methods. This change has made it easier for scammers and hackers to copy voices and bypass security. What made him terrified was that “banks will still accept a voice print as authentication for you to move a lot of money or do something else,” said Sam Altman.

To avoid this fraud crisis, he suggested improving the verification and security system. This can be done by switching from old systems to multi-factor authentication. He also predicted that video cloning will be the next big thing. Society must rethink how we verify identity in a world driven by AI. All he meant to share was that the danger is not just limited to the audio.

Soon, in the upcoming days, scammers will be able to create video clones. He warned that video clones could create a “virtual or simulated experience.” This experience could be so realistic that it is hard to tell it apart from the real world. This will make it much harder to verify true identities. He advised the Banks to rethink the authentication system and make an adaptation to high security.

The Windows app version of ChatGPT is only available for ChatGPT Team, Plus, Edu, and Enterprise users as of now. OpenAI has stated that the app is currently available as an early version, with the ‘full experience’ coming later in 2024.

The arrival of the ChatGPT app can be run on most devices running Windows 10 and up but the app does have some limitations, especially when in comparison with other versions of the chatbot. For instance, the Windows app cannot run voice support such as Advanced Voice Mode. The OpenAI chatbot on Windows also cannot turn on some of the GTP Store integrations.

This allows the AI models to solve more complex and harder tasks and problems as compared to the other AI models released by the company. To gain access to these models, users will require a ChatGPT Plus or Team subscription. Education in Enterprise users has also been said to gain access to these models soon. Free ChatGPT users will have to wait a bit longer to get their chance at using o1-mini. 

o1 is made of two models namely the o1-preview and o1-mini. The reason this model takes more time to think of answers is because it essentially ‘fact-checks’ itself. It takes into account all parts of the question before providing an answer. It carries out proper planning and performs a bunch of actions that assist the model in moulding an answer. So the longer this AI takes to answer a question, the better the output. This makes it different from all other models that came before it. 

o1: More on this new OpenAI model

This generative AI model has been said to excel in problems relating to coding and since as well as in analysing data. However, there are a couple of disadvantages that come with this new AI model. An obvious drawback would be the amount of time it takes to answer a question or query. Although it may provide better answers in terms of quality, it is much slower than the other models because it takes time to ‘think’ about the answer. 

Furthermore, o1 is quite expensive as the o1-preview costs $15 per one million input tokens as well as $60 per one million output tokens. This generative AI model is also limited in some aspects. For instance, browsing the web is not possible for this AI model and neither is analysing files.

Microsoft and OpenAI are now official competitors as Microsft openly lists OpenAI as competitors in its yearly report. OpenAI now joins Microsoft’s lists of competitors including Google, Amazon, Meta and Apple.

This move by Microsoft has blindsided many as the relationship between the two leading tech companies was generally positive and mutually beneficial. However, this move by Microsoft may or may not complicate their partnership.

Microsoft and OpenAI- Current State of their Partnership

As per reports, Microsft has invested over $13 billion in OpenAI to become its only cloud service provider. Furthermore, Microsoft has even integrated OpenAI’s AI technology into its products. However, Microsoft has been pushing itself into the AI market with its products. The tech company has several AI services such as its AI chatbot Copilot and Microsoft Azure AI.

Despite the open listing, OpenAI has assured that Microsft will remain a partner. A spokesperson from OpenAI has further stated that competition between the two companies has always been recognised but their partnership has not been affected.

2024 has not been the best year for Microsoft and OpenAI’s relationship as Microsoft withdrew a board seat at OpenAI, following the reinstatement of Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO. There are also rumours circulating about internal competition between the two companies, such as Microsoft’s CEO hiring a member from DeepMind’s AI team. This member was none other than Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Deepmind.

Select GPT Plus subscribers will be sent an email detailing instructions to use the voice assistant. Users may also be able to view an invitation towards the bottom of the page when the ChatGPT app is in use.

Users can click on the Voice icon and start conversations with the Advanced Voice Mode. Additionally, users are given the option to mute/unmute themselves and they can also cease the conversation by clicking on the red circled X icon. Furthermore, users can also switch over to the Standard voice mode.

Advanced Voice Mode and its features

The new feature can be accessed in over 45 languages. It is said to provide users with naturally flowing conversations happening in real-time. Users can even interrupt the conversation to which the AI will pick up on the user’s emotions and respond accordingly.

The conversations can even be resumed through the new voice mode. It has also been advised by OpenAI to use headphones for the best possible experience.

The advanced voice mode comes in four voice presents developed by industry professionals. Voice actors have been employed to make the voices sound as natural as possible.

OpenAI plans to bring the new voice mode for all its GPT Plus members later this year. The company has also stated that it will be bringing screen-sharing and video calls in a future update.

OpenAI has also stated that publishers can choose not to include their work to train its models, yet still show up on the search results.

The AI giant stated that it is currently integrating CriticGPT models into its RLHF (reinforcement learning from human feedback) machines which assists the company’s AI trainers. RLHF collects feedback which the AI trainers compare and rate the various responses provided by ChatGPT. 

OpenAI’s CriticGPT and Why it is Needed

Over the years since its inception, ChatGPT has improved by leaps and bounds regarding its accuracy with answers and suggestions. Though this is a benefit, it also poses a challenge for RLHF. This is due to the lack of inaccuracies or mistakes available for AI trainers to draw their comparisons from. Alignment of models becomes more of a hurdle as responses become more accurate to which trainers are unable to provide feedback. CriticGPT is OpenAI’s answer to solving this problem. 

GPT-4 powers ChatGPT and CriticGPT is also based on this very model. Additionally, RLHF trained and integrated with CriticGPT. However, the new AI tool perceived more inaccuracies to be critiqued. AI trainers were then instructed to enter the inaccuracies into ChatGPT’s code and compose sample feedback under the pretence that the trainers found the bug.

The trainers are then asked to compare numerous critiques of the reviewed code. This is done to make it easier to detect a critique that catches the bug. CriticGPT also creates lengthier and more extensive critiques.

ChatGPT is OpenAI’s artificial intelligence chatbot through which users can use the app to have conversations in a dialogue format. Users can ask questions and ask the chatbot to generate images as well. 

Users can access the ChatGPT app on their Mac devices by pressing the Option + Space shortcut. OpenAI has also stated that users can use the chatbot for emails, screenshots and ‘anything on your screen’. The AI app lets users take screenshots and discuss the content with the chatbot. 

Users can also upload pictures and start ‘conversations with ChatGPT with photos’ from their computer. They can also upload files through ChatGPT and talk to the chatbot starting with Voice Mode. ChatGPT also enables users to view previous conversations.

During the WWDC, both tech companies announced a larger deal which provides Apple users access through iOS devices. GPT-4o will power the tech giants’ integration. 

OpenAI has stated, “ChatGPT will also be available in Apple’s system-wide Writing Tools, which help users generate content for anything they are writing about.”

The acquisition will see Multi’s employees consisting of five members moving over to OpenAI, which is the parent company of ChatGPT. The closure of Multi’s website has also been slated for 24 July 2024. This website enclosure also means the deletion of all user data.

Multi’s CEO and co-founder, Alexander Embiricos has confirmed the enclosure of the company’s website in a blog post. Charley Ho, Multi’s other co-founder, has also expressed his excitement about Multi’s acquisition on his X account. 

OpenAI’s move to acquire the company may be part of its recent strategy of reinforcing enterprise solutions. 

Multi: Behind the startup

Multi, previously known as Remotion is a video-conferencing platform which enables remote teams to collaborate through live video chats. The collaborative platform allows users to talk live instead of typing and scheduling meetings. Users could share one screen for multiple purposes. Multi also enables users to collaborate and establish rapport with the face-to-face conversation that feels and appears natural and working together. 

The startup was first launched in 2020 exclusively for macOS as a screen-sharing application that had the potential to rival the likes of Zoom. Multi was formally known as ‘Remotion’ and the reason for the name change was due to the company’s shift in direction. It was initially meant as a video-calling application for remote work during the Covid pandemic. However, the company felt ‘Remotion’ was limiting as they geared up to expand horizons beyond the remote workplace.

Multi is based in San Francisco, California, United States. The startup has raised $13 million in capital from venture capitals including First Round Capital and Greylock.
