Google has brought in a new updated feature in Gmail called summary cards for tracking events, purchases and much more. Users can track the important details of their everyday lives that sometimes get forgotten amid all the emails and apps.

Although this is not a new feature, Google is bringing in some changes to assist users with inbox management. One update will come from the design of the summary cards. The feature will be receiving a revamped look across travel emails, events, purchases and more. It will also bring action buttons including bill payment reminders. Users can also add events to their calendars and invite their friends, colleagues and more.

The new update will also make the feature’s backend more powerful. The new updated cards will be viewable in four email categories, such as Purchases, Events, Bills, and Travel. Under purchases, users will be able to track their packages and view their order details. As for the Events section, users can set reminders for an event and also invite their friends and family. Users can even view and pay their bills. They can also set reminders to pay their bills later by adding a due date on Google Tasks. In addition, users can also manage their hotel reservations, flight tickets and hotel check-out timings.

Summary Cards: More on this updated Gmail feature

The updated version of summary cards also visually organises important information from all the user’s emails so they can perform certain tasks. Users can receive details at a faster pace as the summaries highlight the most important information, instead of the user going through loads of emails. These cards are also dynamic so they keep the users updated on events, deadlines and deliveries that are coming soon.

Google will also be introducing a ‘Happening Soon’ section which essentially lets users know when a delivery is happening soon. The Happening Soon section in the user’s Gmail shows them their purchase summary cards when the date of delivery is This new section will be rolling out in the coming soon in the following months.

Google will be rolling out a new Gemini feature called Smart Replies which generates contextual replies to emails. This feature was previously announced earlier this year in May.

This feature is available within Gmail. Google says this new feature will provide users with a much more detailed response. These responses fully represent the intention of the user’s message. This is done by carefully considering all contents of an email thread. Thus this creates a more tailored reply to each email.

To use the Smart Replies feature, users will have to hover their cursor on each recommended smart reply to see a preview of the text. After this, users will have to choose the desired match. Users can select whichever reply that matches their style of writing or needs the most. The users can also edit the replies. Users can also send the replies directly without any editing.

Smart Replies: Who it’s for and why it exists

Smart Replies will save both time and improve the quality of an automated response. Most automated responses are usually just simple and prompt but with this new feature, users will have more variety for replies. Users will now be able to generate a fully tailored response. The AI will also take the content in the entire email thread into account. So the AI does not miss out on any important information or context that is needed to respond accordingly to the recipient.

This new feature by Google will be available for plans such as Google One AI Premium, Education Premium, Gemini Enterprise, and Enterprise. This new AI feature currently only supports English and Google has not revealed whether or not language support will be expanded. Smart Replies existed back in 2017 within Gmail so the tech giant built and polished this feature ever since then.

Google has introduced a Polish feature on Gmail which assists in refining email drafts. This feature is powered by Google’s own AI assistant, Gemini and it is available on the web, iOS and Android.

Gemini was recently integrated into Gmail earlier this year. The AI assistant helped users to draft and generate responses to an email. Furthermore, the Summarise This Email’ tool provided users with a summary or rundown of an email. Users could even ask Gemini questions related to the email and retrieve information from the other emails in the user’s inbox.

Gmail Polish: What the new feature can do

Google has stated that the new Polish feature enables users to draft and refine their emails. This feature takes the users’ drafts and the results are a more ‘polished’ version of the original draft. Users can turn their rough draft into a ‘formal’ draft all in one click.

Help Me Write is another feature that has been released alongside Polish. When users write a draft of twelve words or more, a shortcut called ‘Refine my Draft’ will appear. Once the shortcut has been selected, users are given options to improve their drafts. These options include Polish, Formalise, Elaborate, Shorten and Write a New Draft.

The new features are exclusive to Google Workspace subscribers that have either Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, Google One AI Premium or Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on. It will be available for both admins as well as end users.

Gemini AI is now available in Gmail as a Summarise this email feature. Google briefly showed the Gemini AI’s integration in Gmail during the I/O developer event in May 2024.

This new feature is powered by the Gemini 1.5 Pro Large Language Model. It can be accessed on Gmail’s side panel as a star sign. Google extends this side panel to tools such as Sheets, Drive Docs and Slides.

Gemini in Gmail: Features of the new feature

Gemini AI in Gmail can help users draft an email or even use AI to generate responses to an email. There is a ‘Summarise this email’ tool that provides users with a quick rundown of the content present in the email. Additionally, users can ask Gemini questions and retrieve information that is available in the content of the emails within users’ inboxes or drives.

The AI assistant can also construct answers to specific questions by putting together information found in the emails. For instance, users can ask, “When is my next scheduled meeting with X company?”, Gemini will scour through previous emails and provide the appropriate answers.

Google Docs allows users to use the Gemini side panel to write content and brainstorm ideas with users. Gemini utilises information available in other files to create new content.

With the AI tech integration into Google, Slides will offer users the option to generate new slides and images and the ability to summarise presentations. Similarly, Sheets will allow users to make tables with the help of the AI feature.

Gemini is currently available only for Google Workspace customers who are subscribed to models such as Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on and Google Open AI Premium.

Gemini in Gmail will be available on Android, iOS and web browsers.

Google has revealed the new features’ upcoming testing phase for Google Workspace users. Google enhanced the use of eSignature after starting alpha testing to give individual Google Workspace subscribers a more streamlined signing procedure.

More Google Workspace users were also asked to apply for early access to eSignature in Google Docs and Drive as well as “Email Layouts v2” for Gmail.

Google Increases eSignature Accessibility

Google has expanded eSignature, which is expected to roll out to individual Google Workspace customers over the next two weeks. This move has been motivated by encouraging comments and insightful observations.

The purpose of eSignature is to help people and small business owners who frequently struggle with handling contracts, customer agreements, and other legally binding documents. Users will be able to submit official contract requests and add signatures inside the site thanks to integration with Google Docs and Google Drive.

It simplifies the procedures for obtaining signatures, checking the status of open requests, and locating finished contracts.

Receiving a document signed within an official Google Drive saves the recipient from having to switch between tabs or apps. The duration needed to finish a contract might be shortened by using a simpler procedure.

Initial Access eSignature Application & Custom “Email Layouts v2”

For early access to eSignature in Gmail, business, education, enterprise, and non-profit customers must apply.

The program also makes reference to a test version of “Email Layouts v2” in Gmail, which enables users to “…create, edit, and customize email layouts in Gmail.”

The ability to transmit contracts by email with a customized style and to collect client signatures inside of Gmail are two tools that could help Workspace users handle contracts better.

Users of the Gmail mobile app may now translate emails into over 100 different languages thanks to a feature that Google is progressively introducing.

This function has been accessible through Gmail on the web for a long time. A much-needed improvement is the implementation of mobile devices.

Within the app, translate Gmail messages

Users of the Gmail mobile app will soon see an ad that may be dismissed that lets them translate messages into their preferred language. When an email has material that conflicts with the user’s “Google.com Mail display language” settings, this notice should appear.

To translate the email’s content, users simply tap the translate banner. Users can also choose whether Gmail should always or never translate a particular language in the future.

Alternative Techniques For Gmail Translation

The three-dot menu allows users to manually translate messages until the new capability is available. Users of iOS apps can now highlight text and access the translate feature by doing so.
