They can also find out why people like going to a specific place with review summaries by Google’s AI. Google has stated that these features have been made possible with Gemini’s reasoning, summarisation, and creation abilities, which pull data from 250 million places globally. The AI also utilises insights from the Maps community. This new feature will be available for US users starting this week on both Android and iOS devices.

Google is also introducing another update to make driving less stressful. It will now be much easier to explore through routes before starting the journey. Users can receive directions and check out the top attractions, landmarks, dining options and more. Google Maps’ enhanced navigation will also show reports on weather disruptions that might affect their route.

Another upgrade from the new Google Maps Updates comes from Immersive View. Google has stated that Immersive View will now be expanded to 150 cities all over the world. These places include Kyoto, Brussels, and Frankfurt.

This AI-powered feature also shows users the traffic and weather conditions on the day the users are travelling. Smart Replies will save both time and improve the quality of an automated response. Most automated responses are usually just simple and prompt but with this new feature, users will have more variety for replies. Users will now be able to generate a fully tailored response. The AI will also take the content in the entire email thread into account. So the AI does not miss out on any important information or context that is needed to respond accordingly to the recipient.

This new feature by Google will be available for plans such as Google One AI Premium, Education Premium, Gemini Enterprise, and Enterprise. This new AI feature currently only supports English and Google has not revealed whether or not language support will be expanded. Smart Replies existed back in 2017 within Gmail so the tech giant built and polished this feature ever since then.

Users can also opt out of creating custom gems and use the premade Gems provided by Google instead. There are different premade gems for various scenarios such as a coding partner which helps users level up their coding skills and build projects. Other premade gems include a writing editor, a learning coach, a career guide, and a brainstormer.

Custom Gems and new Imagen update from Gemini

Gems allow users to create personalised chatbots that assist them in various tasks. These gems can also be given characteristics to make them more personal. It is akin to making a custom AI bot tailored to the users’ needs. Gems can help users create an ensemble of experts for various purposes such as brainstorming for ideas, captions for an Instagram post, and even general assistance towards a tough challenge. A user’s Gem can retain information and maintain instructions which saves users’ time when doing tasks.

Gmail Polish: What the new feature can do

Google has stated that the new Polish feature enables users to draft and refine their emails. This feature takes the users’ drafts and the results are a more ‘polished’ version of the original draft. Users can turn their rough draft into a ‘formal’ draft all in one click.

Help Me Write is another feature that has been released alongside Polish. When users write a draft of twelve words or more, a shortcut called ‘Refine my Draft’ will appear. Once the shortcut has been selected, users are given options to improve their drafts. These options include Polish, Formalise, Elaborate, Shorten and Write a New Draft.

The new features are exclusive to Google Workspace subscribers that have either Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, Google One AI Premium or Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on. It will be available for both admins as well as end users.

Made by Google 2024: Everything Announced at the Event

During the event, Google announced the Pixel 9 phone series, which consists of the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro. The new Pixel 9 starts at $799 while the Pixel Pro XL is priced at $1,099. The Pixel 9 Pro which is around the same size as the Pixel 9 has been priced at $999. Google has also launched the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a foldable fold priced at a whipping $1,799.

Besides the phone lineup, Google has also launched the Pixel Buds Pro 2 which is considerably lighter and smaller than its predecessor. The ANC on the new Pixel Buds have been improved and the buds offer up to 8 hours of audio listening. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 comes with a $229 price tag.

Furthermore, Google has released the Pixel Watch 3 with a 41mm and 45mm model option. Both models are priced differently as the 41mm model costs $349.99 and the larger model is $399.99. The new Pixel Watch series has thinner bezels and a super bright display up to 2000 nits. Newly added features for fitness have also been added to the Pixel Watch 3.

Lastly, Gemini Live finally sees its release after being announced at the I/0 developer event that took place earlier in 2024. This new voice mode is exclusive to Gemini Advanced users and available in 10 voices. Gemini Live allows users to engage in natural and free-flowing conversations with the AI assistant.

The Gemini update promises to provide users with quick and quality responses. Improvements in the latency have also been made such as in understanding the image and reasoning.

Gemini Advanced users can now have longer conversations and ask even more complex questions to the chatbot. This is due to the increase in tokens to 32k tokens.

Google has also stated that the Gemini 1.5 Flash new update is more efficient than the Gemini 1.5 Pro. Furthermore, the company has said that Gemini users, regardless of which version they use, will be able to upload files from Google Drive and other devices such as phones or computers. This feature was previously exclusive to Gemini Advanced users.

Gemini will also introduce linking to improve the accuracy of information as well as to allow users to verify the content in the responses provided. This linking feature is expected to decrease the amount of ‘hallucinations’ that the chatbot may experience.

Additionally, users can access additional information in the chatbot’s responses by simply clicking on the chip that presides towards the end of a sentence or paragraph.

Google plans to make Gemini available in even more countries and integrate it into more platforms. Other plans in the working also include Gemini for teenagers which will have added safety protocols in place.

The AI assistant can also construct answers to specific questions by putting together information found in the emails. For instance, users can ask, “When is my next scheduled meeting with X company?”, Gemini will scour through previous emails and provide the appropriate answers. 

Google Docs allows users to use the Gemini side panel to write content and brainstorm ideas with users. Gemini utilises information available in other files to create new content. 

With the AI tech integration into Google, Slides will offer users the option to generate new slides and images and the ability to summarise presentations. Similarly, Sheets will allow users to make tables with the help of the AI feature. 

Gemini is currently available only for Google Workspace customers who are subscribed to models such as Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on and Google Open AI Premium.

As per reports by GSM Arena, this expansion is a notable step in Google’’s efforts to broaden the reach of its chatbot technology beyond select markets. Google has also expressed enthusiasm about launching in India, citing the country’s vibrant mobile-first culture.
