Power BI from Microsoft is one popular and leading Data analytics and BI solution used by companies from various domains worldwide. Microsoft keeps adding new features to Power BI from time to time. It has finally released the June 2021 update with the addition of many interesting features. Along with features, some previews have also been launched for trial purposes. If the users receive them well, these features will be implemented in Power BI too.

When it comes to business intelligence, Microsoft Power BI from Microsoft Cloud is a good option for Data Visualization. With this, you can have complete and transparent access to your company data from any place and at any time. This makes working with data convenient even when you are on the move. To ensure you maximize the benefits of Power BI’s mobile capabilities and other features, it’s essential to have a solid understanding of the platform. For guidance on best practices and leveraging the full potential of Power BI, you can visit here for more information. By engaging with experienced consultants, you can learn how to optimize your data visualization and analytics processes, enabling your organization to make data-driven decisions even while on the go. Enlisted below are the new previews and features of Power BI, which Microsoft has brought forward in the June update:

Transparency slider feature for area charts

With the new feature of the transparency slider, it is now possible to set the transparency of colored areas in your stacked area and area charts. This transparency was set to 60% by default in the previous versions, and this could not be modified as per user needs. You can adjust this transparency from the Formatting Pane by using the Data Colors Card. This can be useful for most power BI developers.

Visuals for paginated reports

This is a preview feature, which has been highly anticipated. Microsoft has announced a paginated report visual for Power BI reports, and this is now available on the Power BI desktop in the form of a public preview. With the help of this native Power BI visual, you will be able to extract any kind of paginated report, which has been uploaded to the Service in Power BI Report. This has been made possible for the first time. The power bi report developers will appreciate this feature.

With this feature in place, it is possible to wire up various fields from the Power BI dataset for being used as parameter values. Therefore, you will have a completely interactive experience with paginated reports, similar to any other kind of visual. This will be quite beneficial for power bi development.

Improvement of Q&A for inferred results

There are many questions from the end users which are incomplete or ambiguous. In such a situation, Q&A has to make some assumptions for producing visuals for such queries. In such scenarios, Q&A returns a natural language restatement or a visual depending on the interpretation of the queries of the end-user. However, it may be difficult for users to understand which part of the results was inferred.

In the new update that is released, this experience is improved significantly with the addition of the Showing Results for restatement with bolding of the inferences made by Q&A.

Small multiples: conditional formatting and responsiveness

In the June 2021 update, there are two new updates in the small multiples preview feature. Firstly, support is enabled for a responsive toggle in the General Card of Formatting pane. Various chart elements will gradually drop with responsive visuals as their size reduces. There will be more space for the plot area. For small multiples, adjustments have been made in responsive breakpoints to accommodate the potential presence of more than one plot area in the visual. Therefore, small multiple visuals will start dropping chart elements to make room for multiple plot areas.

Along with this, conditional formatting is also added to background colors and multiple small titles. You have to click the fx button adjacent to the corresponding choices in the formatting pane for launching the conditional formatting dialog. It is possible to set rules with which chart elements will be colored. With the help of this function, the background and multiple small titles will help in better communication of major data attributes.

Data Connectivity

Innumerable updates, as well as new connectors, are made available with Power BI June 2021 update. Mentioned below is the full list of such connectors:

BQE Core- The new connector

SumTotal- The new connector

Assemble Views- The new connector

Azure Consumption Insights- The connector deprecated

FactSet Analytics The updated connector

Anaplan- The updated connector

Azure Databricks- The updated connector

Starburst Enterprise – The updated connector

Vessel Insight- The updated connector

Cognitive Data Fusion- The updated connector

Dynamics 365 Business Central The updated connector

Adobe Analytics – The updated connector

Google BigQuery- The updated connector

Snowflake The updated connector

Workplace Analytics The updated connector

DirectQuery support for Dataflows

Microsoft has unveiled DirectQuery Support for Power BI Dataflows. This feature is generally available for users. So, there is no need to import data into a dataset. Now the direct connection to a data flow can be established. This proves to be very useful in many situations and scenarios:

Serving data to customers in a well-managed manner.

Working easily and conveniently with big dataflows.

Minimization of orchestration needs.

Non-duplication of data between dataset and dataflow.

Using this capability, you have to explicitly toggle the compute engine after going into data flow settings. You will have to refresh the data flow before it can be used in DirectQuery mode.

Optimizations are being done constantly to underlying connectors for supporting import scenarios like folding query support for the dataset. There are also attempts to make connections to dataflow easy by bringing unified Power Bi dataflows and Power Platform connectors. Besides, plans of bringing a Dataflows connector to Excel are there.

New appearance for Power BI Windows App

This is a preview feature, which Microsoft released in the June 2021 update. In this, you will get to see the preview of the new appearance of the Power BI Windows App. It is highly impressive that the home page has been given an overhaul. You will find a centralized hub where all the Power BI content is located. You can access all the content quickly in a single place which makes working easy.

For enabling the new look and appearance of the Windows app, use the current version of the app from the store and open it. Right at the top of the screen, you will be able to see the New Look. If you want to experience the new look immediately, just toggle it on. There is no need to restart the app.

Wrapping up

Many more interesting features have been augmented in Power BI through the June update. The company will likely introduce some more features and enhance the preview features in future updates. To use these new features and meet your business data analytics goals, pick from the veteran power bi consulting services.

Entity Relationship Diagrams are the perfect way to interconnect inside the complete organism — such diagrams represent the graph of movement of information and statistics. An (ERD) entity-relationship diagram explains the relations of object groups stowed in a record. An object in such background is called an entity, a constituent of information. An object set is a gathering of similar objects. These objects could have characteristics that describe their possessions.

Recording a Current Folder with the help of Data

There could be two central as to whys and how to make an information diagram. You would moreover scheme a new picture, or a firm might require to text your current construction.

If you own the current database, you would require it to be documented; you can make a catalog diagram with the help of data straightaway from the databank. You could even spread your folder construction as a CSV file then a programmer can be created automatically with the help of the ERD. This would be very much a correct picture of the catalog and would not need any drawing.

Usage of ER Diagrams

There are many questions related to ER Diagrams its uses, its needs, how can they be used, and so on. While they could be applied to represent in many systems, they are chiefly employed in the subsequent extents.

1. ER Models applied in database Strategy

ER Models are extensively applied to plan interpersonal folders. The objects included in the ER diagram develop as attributes, tables that are transformed into the folder diagram. As they are used to imagine folder boards and as well as the relations, it’s usually applied for the database solving problems as well.

2. ER diagrams involved in software engineering

Entity association diagrams are even seen in software manufacturing throughout the preparation of phases of software development. They aid to classify dissimilar scheme rudiments as well as their relations with one another. They are usually applied as the foundation for DFD’s or information flow drawings. There are three significant rudiments in an Entity-relationship Diagram that is an entity, quality, and relationship. There are a lot of rudiments that are founded on vital rudiments. They are a feeble entity, multivalued quality, resulting characteristic, weak association, and repetition association.

Elements and pleasantness are dominant other representations are applied in ER diagrams to describe relations additionally.

Weak Entity- A weak entity is an object that is contingent on the presence of a new substance. In a more significant practical relationship, it could be distinct as an object that could be recognized as the individual of its qualities. They use a distant essential mixture of its credited to form the chief importance. A purpose such as order article is an excellent example of this. The order item would be valuelessly disadvantaged of instruction be depending on the realism of the tutoring. Weak Entity used in Object Relationship Illustrations.

Attribute – An attribute is a possession, peculiarity, or typical of an object, association, or additional quality. For instance, the characteristic Record Article Designation is a quality of the object Record Article. An object could have as numerous attributes as essential. Temporarily, characteristics could even have a precise variety. For instance, the specific address of the customer could have the qualities amount, road as well as the state. These are known as compound qualities. Remember a few of the best level ER diagrams will not display attributes because of the simplicity. Nevertheless, attributes are signified by elliptical shapes.

Multivalued Attribute – If the quality could have many values, they are known as multivalued characteristics. It is significant to have a notion that this is not similar to one attribute which has its very own traits. The multivalued quality in entity-relationship diagrams is always flexible.

Derived Attribute – An attribute that is replied to on a different quality. Such a characteristic is scarce seen inside the ER diagrams. For instance, in a circle, the sides could be derivative from the radius.

Relationship – An association labels the way entities interrelate. For instance, the object “Carpenter” might be connected to the purpose “bench” with a mixture of the relationship “creates” or “builds.” Relations are signified by rhombus forms and are categorized with the help of verbs.

Recursive Relationship – A relationship between the two entities of the same object kind is known as the recursive relationship. To apply this recursive association, for example, the employee’s foreign key executive number will be held cutting-edge individually employee highest.

Cardinality and Normally – Both of these show the relations among the entities by inserting the association in the setting of information. For instance, in an email method, one email account could have numerous associates. The association, in such an example, trails one to multiple models. A lot of representations are applied to contemporary ER diagrams when it comes to cardinality. UML, Chen, Bachman Crow’s foot, and so on are a few of the famous representations. They help to structure UML, Chen, and Crow’s foot symbolizations.

ER Diagram Best Practices

Deliver a detailed and suitable designation for respectively entity, quality, and association while drawing a diagram. Relationships that are comfortable and modest and acquainted strokes unclear, tech sounding phrases continuously. In naming entities, though, adjectives might be applied to different objects belonging to a similar class. The names must be exclusive, comfortable to know, and meaningful.

Eliminate unclearly dismissed, or needless connections among the entities.

Never attach a link to a new relationship.

Use colors effectively. You could apply colors to categorize comparable objects and to highpoint essential zones in the diagrams.

Drawing ER Diagrams Using creately.

It is easy to draw entity association diagrams physically, though, for larger multifaceted schemes and outside spectators, Creately’s is a diagramming software that would be needed to make visually attractive and exact ER diagrams. Create is an online service, which is simple to know and learn. They are even flawlessly suitable for expansion players due to their robust support for teamwork.

Entity-relationship diagrams are a vital part of the industry administrations because they offer to give benefits in handling extensive information in an informal and current method. It shows as a drawing of the existing file and lets the creators make a precise strategy according to the requirements and needs of the business as well as their project.

The Entity-relationship diagrams model creates an information movement well-organized. Such original and easy diagrams provide the companies with the perfect implement for the industry administrations, letting them preserve their records efficiently. ER diagrams establish a valuable outline for generating and operating files.

ER diagrams are simple to comprehend, and they don’t need an individual to experience widespread teaching to be able to work with it professionally and precisely. The meaning of this is that the inventors could apply ER diagrams to effortlessly interconnect with designers, consumers, and employees of the customers, irrespective of their IT know-how.

ER diagrams are willingly adaptable in the interpersonal columns that could be used to rapidly shape databases. Not only this, ER diagrams could unswervingly be used by record designers. Finally ERP Microsoft dynamics 365, ER diagrams might be functional in different contexts like the recitation of various operations and relationships in any organization.

Every day, we are bombarded with a deluge of information online. In the virtual world, everyone’s an expert and has a story to tell. This creative expression produces a massive amount of data every second. We as content creators face the insurmountable task of attracting readers to our content, guiding them through, keeping them engaged and then getting them to subscribe or buy.

Not everyone has enough time or the appropriate attention span to read miles of text. You need signposts and visual clues to keep them skimming through the content while still deriving valuable information and helping break the monotony.

Unfortunately, very little information is available about the importance of visual clues in a blog.

What are Visual clues?

Think of visual clues like stepping stones in a shallow stream. What is their purpose?

Help you cross the stream.

Blogs and articles online are like these streams that people have difficulty crossing if you don’t put the stepping stones there. While none will really drown in a shallow stream they won’t cross it without the stepping stones. Very few will be willing to get their feet drenched and cross the stream with no help.

People visiting your blog but not reading it are the ones who need stepping stones to consume the information from your blogs and articles.

And if you make the stepping stones pretty, people will cross the stream for the sake of it.

Let me help you understand the idea with this simpler version here:

Even though long-form content is a search engine favourite, a lot of people find it tiresome. The common complaint: too long, didn’t read.

The worst fate that your writing could suffer is to get bookmarked and forgotten. Sadly, this happens a lot.

Expecting visitors to flock to your 3000+ words guide is insane and reading it all the way to the end is purely unrealistic.

As a blogger and writer, you should be focused on helping your readers get the most out of your blog/article without getting bored. This is where visual clues enter the picture.

You want your readers to grow attracted to your blogs through these visuals and grasp the most important information as soon as they look at the blog.

The long length of your writing and exhaustive nature may scare some writers but if you employ visual clues right, they will work like stepping stones, helping readers consume the information without getting stuck or drenched in the stream.

Suggested:

How long should a blog post be?

Using the right visual clues

To help your readers comprehend your blogs better, you need to leave them visual clues. Sometimes, people just click on a link to view the featured photographs/images so you may as well end up increasing your click-through rate. The focus of your content should be to help your readers gain the valuable information they were looking for.

Adding Visual clues will help your readers skim through and still get the information they need.

Take the classic newspapers for example.

Ever given a thought to their news formatting and presentation style?

If you didn’t, it is time you did.

The best way of presenting your content using visual clues is by highlighting the critical and moving parts of the story. You should always start by highlighting your title because that is the first thing that any reader will read the minute they visit your blog.

The responsibility of bringing that visitor to a particular blog/story lies solely on the featured image and your title. So, make them both very catchy, crisp and intriguing.

Let’s focus on how you can use visual clues in your content to increase engagement:

The big title

No need to give out the whole plot in the title. Just compose your title to intrigue and capture attention. Your title should thrill, surprise, shock, amuse and evoke curiosity from the reader.

Other than deciding the perfect headline, you should pick the right font size for your title.

The opening and featured image

Newspapers often chronicle tragedies but have you ever noticed how they titillate the reader’s attention with a featured photograph?

You don’t have to start writing tragedies or romances to generate attention but simply emulate the classic practice of including a featured photo in a written piece.

A relevant featured photo has also become a common practice among famous blogs online. A lot of writers follow the promising title with a spot-on introduction with a featured photo right next to it. When picking your featured photo, make sure that it supports the title.

The benefit of having a featured photo right next to the opening content is that the words per line will reduce and readers will find it particularly easy to read them. Moreover, readers will process the photo much faster and move forward depending on how spot-on was the image. You must understand the importance of images in the post.

Break it down

Not breaking your content down into small, digestible chunks is plain torture. The quality of your writing won’t matter much if you don’t format it well.

Always break your content down into small paragraphs complete with apt headings and bullet points and a conclusion that summarizes it all.

Image credits: screenshot taken from the website

Focus on packing information in such a way that your readers consume the information as they come across it instead of procrastinating.

Start with a simple, easy-to-understand, relevant opening/introduction and establish the point you are trying to make. Gradually, start elaborating on the idea/point you have been trying to establish. Follow it up with supportive information and secondary details but make sure that you write them in distinctive paragraphs so they are easy to comprehend.

Don’t forget to make subheadings for different paragraphs you write. Subheadings will help your readers get the outline of your blog/article.

Finally, when summarising the whole blog/article, mention the most important points as key takeaways and present a condensed version of the blog. This will help your readers get the gist of the entire blog even when they end up skimming through it.

Highlight Quotes and other information of great importance

Ever noticed how newspapers have a major quote printed right in the middle of a story? This is done to evoke a response and boost the human-engagement factor of the piece. People tend to read quotes more and they consume small content that’s highlighted in a story faster than they consume the entire story.

Image credits: screenshot taken from the website

Try highlighting expert or critical quotes in your blogs and articles along with information of great importance.

Use data batches

When researching topics, you may come across information that may not blend with the tone of your blog/article. But if you feel it’s crucial, you can present it separately in simple data batches.

Just make separate columns, use a different colour theme and highlight them so they don’t get ignored.

Relevant captions

It’s good to be a writer with a passion but to grow your blog’s engagement, focus on being a storyteller. Tell people not just what they want to hear but also what will help them get ahead.

Storytelling is incomplete without some vivid imagery so don’t forget to craft clever, creative and intriguing captions when you support your blogs (stories) with real images.

A lot of people just browse through images and writing clever and descriptive captions can help you get their attention to your blog.

Visual content: Improve your content consumption with visuals.

If you are new to the idea of visual content, here are the 7 pro types of visual content you should start using immediately:

Screenshots– When writing a how-to blog post or a tutorial, screenshots are a must. A lot of your readers may not be able to comprehend the text instructions. Some may not even know the technical terms or insider words you may be mentioned in your post. So, consider adding screenshots with each step to make a comprehensive and easy-to-understand tutorial. You can even make a slideshow and post it on SlideShare for higher views and more traffic.

Images– You can use original photographs or stock images depending on the type of post you are writing. Add relevant images to a travel guide and try to include as many original images as you can if you are penning a personal experience-based guide/review. Also, use relevant images when writing product reviews. If you can’t produce original images, choose stock images available in the public domain and customize them to fit your visual theme and identity.

Image credits: screenshot taken from the website

Infographic– Exhaustive guides are brilliant but there is a better way of packing all that groundbreaking information in simple, digestible chunks: Infographics.

Graphs and charts– It is particularly easier to present intricate information in graphs and charts than in explanatory paragraphs. Save yourself the trouble of analysis and use appropriate graphs and charts in your case studies, informative posts, etc.

Cartoons and comics– Cartoons and comics let you portray your message and content in a clever, endearing and simple way. The big benefit is that you’ll attract plenty of readers who generally don’t read blog posts or guides.

Memes– Be very careful with memes and try customizing them to fit the context. They fit listicles rather well but avoid overdoing them though.

Embed Posts and Tweets– Cash in on the trending tweets and posts by embedding relevant and trending social media content in your blogs.

How to use these 7 types of visual content?

Featured Image

Use a big, attention-grabbing, relevant image right under your title and before you begin writing the opening of your blog. Since it is the featured image, you can choose one as wide as your post but if you want to feature the opening or introduction alongside the featured image, you can resize the image and use it on the right or left-hand side with the introduction content right next to it.

Using the featured image right next to the introduction or opening will also help your readers comprehend the information better.

Support your content with visuals

Allow your readers a brief break every 300 words by including images at specific intervals. If your blog is only 300-500 words, only one image will do. But if you have written 500+ words, consider using images every 300 words. Keep the content/blog theme and topic in mind and use relevant, informative, easy to comprehend images.

Final words

Unless you are documenting original research and contributing to the revered journals in science and technology, it is best to customize your content to fit your reader’s needs. Engagement depends largely on how easy your content is to consume in addition to relevancy. Just in case I lost you at the original, here are the Key takeaways:

Write crisp, engaging titles that promise something valuable and evoke curiosity.

Support the title with a relevant, highly attractive featured image.

Break down your content into smaller paragraphs and use subheadings and bullet points to present information in a digestible manner.

Always highlight the crucial points of your blog/article.

Use the supportive information in data batches to help your reader get the background of the blog/article subject.

Leverage the power of visuals and use clever captions.

Use screenshots, original/customized/stock images, infographics, charts, graphs, cartoons, comics, memes, social media posts, etc to visually represent your content.

Just focus on bringing value to your readers when writing and making it easy for them to consume and process the content if you want your audience to grow.
